My Experience

I have tutored and nannied through this website previously alongside my university studies. I have tutored and nannied children aged 6months- 12 and during professional experiences at Kingsweston School I have worked with special needs children aged 6-13.
In my most recent post at the ASC strand of Kingsweston I have worked closely with pupils with ADHD, Autism, attachment and SLD. Prior to this in other jobs/ placements I have worked with children who have been Blind, Deaf and have had fetal Alcohol syndrome within mainstream settings and have thoroughly enjoyed the challenging yet rewarding work.

In my job I have been trusted with many responsibilities such as organising a sensory room, planning and delivering lessons, and working with children who have high priority behaviours. I have undergone home learning training and have sent videos and work home to families. I also regularly contact- and form good relationships with- parents about the development of their child and to discuss with parents or answer parents questions. I enjoy working with and assisting children so that they can discover their potential and help them to see their individual brilliance.

An important lesson/ technique I learned was the P.A.C.E (playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, empathy) approach which I found so effective bringing about progression with a child’s understanding of their own emotions and the regulation of these. I have connected with children that have been in my class as well as ensuring to build relationships with those who are not during break times and when I have been asked to help with a behaviour. I will always offer help in a crisis and have learnt how to support in any situation.
