Sheena is a remarkable teacher my only regret is that I did not find her sooner! Around Nov last year it became clear that my daughter needed additional support in English if she was even to achieve a pass. With the changes to the GCSE grading structure her confidence had taken a knock following a succession of low grades in prep for the changes. She was struggling to get her head around English and had really started to dislike the subject. Her predicted grade at the time was a level 2, the equivalent of an E under the old structure and would mean a retake as the grade was below a level 4 (grade C).

We found Sheena following a search of local tutors. I was Immediately impressed by the way Sheena sort to understand exactly what my daughter’s needs were and what the specific barriers and challenges were to her learning. She clearly understood the changes to the GCSe grading framework and what the focus needed to be in order to increase her chances of securing a pass.  My daughter instantly took to her too! My understanding is that Sheena deals with a range of young people and in doing so has a great ability to connect with each child at their level. My daughter was 15 turning 16 at the time so a totally different approach to engage her was needed compared to a younger child.

What was great about Sheena is that she does not just teach she nurtures, building the confidence and self-belief needed. I actually felt she was working in partnership with me. At the end of each session she provided clear updates and strategies for improvement sharing them not just with me but with my daughter. She is patient understanding and I believe genuinely cares and is invested in each of the young people she supports. After meeting with her I decided to get additional tuition for my son to help secure the pass he needed in English as he was in his final year of A levels. Sheena again was brilliant totally flexible about how often he went to her, she was happy to be guided by him and not insistent he attended every week but more so when he felt he actually need the extra help. She was totally tuned in to the pressures of A ‘level study and had the insight and flexibility to make the learning centred around the young person.

7 months later we could not have been more elated, my daughter achieved a Grade 6 in English a high B
(a long way for the predicted Grade 2) which we totally attribute to the interventions and support by Sheena. I can’t help but wonder what she could have achieved if she had been working with Sheena sooner. If you’re looking for just a tutor there are ten a penny however if you at seeking a learning partner in your child's development, someone who will champion, encourage, believe in their capabilities and support them to get results beyond expectations then I cannot recommend Sheena enough. Sheena thank you so much, you were a great find and we are truly grateful for the commitment and belief you showed in both of our children but especially our daughter.
