About Me

Are you a parent who is worried about their child?

Can you see a gap in what your child is ‘taught’ and what they actually understand?

Have you found yourself sitting down to do homework with your child that is totally inappropriate for their abilities?

Would you like to bridge the gap between what your child hears in the classroom and what they actually learn?

And crucially would you like to do this with an experienced and empathetic tutor, who’s worked with students with a wide variety of different needs and abilities?

If you are concerned about your child’s education and would like to support their learning and general well-being, I can help with Amy Lakin Tutoring.

I have seen in many classrooms the children who get left behind, the children struggling in a mainstream setting that also don’t seem quite right for the majority of special schools. The children riddled with anxiety, scared to put their hand up and ask for help. The children who are ignored because they aren’t ‘acting out’ but also aren’t the top of the class. These are the children I am passionate about.

Whether they are 6 or 16, all children need the same thing: an adult who believes in them. I can be that person for your child. I have done it for many children already.

I am a fully qualified teacher with a BA in English, a PGDipEd with qualified teacher status and a Masters in Teaching Studies. I have also completed several short courses through Educare including courses on: Dyslexia, Safeguarding, Dyspraxia, Speech and Language and Autism as well as many others. I am also fully DBS checked.

I have been tutoring for over 2 years and during that time I have refined and modified my practice and business model to support your child in the best way possible.

What’s included:

Specially tailored lessons that support your child’s learning.
Weekly homework tasks that are pitched at your child’s ability.
Yearly Positive Reports for your child to receive the praise and encouragement that they deserve and may not receive from their school setting.
Convenient online booking system.

My Experience

I am an experienced English tutor with a strong background in working with students across a wide age range, from early years up to GCSE level. My passion lies in helping children, particularly those with unique challenges, to thrive academically and personally.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working in diverse educational settings, this experience has given me a broad perspective on how to effectively engage students with different learning styles and needs.

I have had lots of experience in supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEND), such as speech and language difficulties, selective mutism, and other related challenges. My approach is always tailored to the individual, ensuring that each child receives the guidance and encouragement they need to succeed.

As a specialist in AQA English exam preparation, I offer targeted support that equips students with the skills and confidence to excel in their exams. My small group sessions provide a supportive and focused environment where students can collaborate and learn at their own pace.

In addition to my experience, I am fully DBS checked and continuously update my knowledge through professional development courses, ensuring I stay informed on the best practices for supporting students with diverse needs.

I am a fully qualified teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and hold a degree in English. My academic background also includes A-levels in English Literature, English Language, and Psychology.
