My Summary
About Me
A dedicated, compassionate, nurturing and hands-on professional, with a positive and respectful attitude towards neurodiversity and a commitment to promoting inclusion and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people. I consider myself patient, calm, observant, intuitive and enthusiastic. I'm looking to secure a position that offers the opportunity for professional growth, where I can apply my knowledge and skills learned from my extensive experience working with older adults, and young people with additional needs and disabilities. During this time, I have learnt how to communicate respectfully and effectively with individuals who rely on my assistance to maintain their independence, well-being and dignity. I enjoy using Lego as a tool for learning when working with children and maintain a person-centred approach in my work. I am paediatric first aid trained and have taken part in a multitude of in house and formal training including safeguarding, paediatric first aid, Makaton and manual handling. I am registered with Ofsted.
My Experience
I have over 10 years of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities experience supporting young children in mainstream, specialist, and home settings with all aspects of their care and learning with particular skills in supporting children with autism and related conditions, communication difficulties, sensory processing and social and emotional difficulties. I've supported teaching and learning across all areas of the KS1 & KS2 curriculum including literacy and maths and helped children overcome their barriers to learning. I have assisted in the development of speech & language skills, by supporting comprehension, semantics, and phonics as well as life skills such as self-care, cooking and shopping. I have also supported a child who has cerebral palsy with personal care, PEG feeding, manual handling using hoists and walking aids. I have successfully run Lego-based therapy interventions in schools, focussing on social skills, speech, language and fine motor skills. I have extensive experience in implementing therapy programs set by speech and language therapists and occupational therapists. I am on the DBS Update Service.
