About Me
Hi, I'm Lizzy and I co-childmind with a lovely lady. We are both qualified teachers with more than 10 years of experience in the early years. Children learn at different paces and each child's development is unique.
Children learn best when they are happy, secure and actively involved in their own learning and this is our priority. Our setting is a warm home-from-home for children to enable them and give them the best opportunities in life to thrive. We strive to balance child-initiated and adult-led, a hybrid educational approach, bringing together the best methodologies, with carefully planned continuous provision and an enabling environment that evolves to meet the needs of every child in our care.
We will provide an enabling environment, opportunities and a wide range of resources so learning can take place through play. We have experience in different special educational needs and are happy to connect with different families.
Our setting is close to Dundonald Park and has an outdoors as well as a spacious indoor space, we aim for every child to be as independent as possible and will be visiting local parks, libraries etc.
My Experience
I'm a mum of 2 and have taught for over 15 years of which 12 have been in the UK and in the Early years. I'm blessed to be multi-lingual (Afrikaans and English). I've worked in a few settings throughout London and have an extensive understanding of the Early Year's Framework and the development of children in the early years. I have worked with numerous children with special educational needs. I am passionate about working with children and love seeing them grow into themselves, each unique in their way.

We recently moved from South Africa and was struggling to find a place for our two and a half year old son who was struggling with seperation anxiety. Lizzy and Debbie accepted us immediately and have helped our transition process from our son being home with me most of the time to me going back to work full time in a new country. Lizzy and Debbie helped us and are still helping me every day to settle Alexander. I will be forever grateful for what smiley kids have done for us and our son. Take it from a paranoid, overprotective mother.

Our daughter has been with Lizzy and Debbie since she was 7 months old. She has had complex food allergies which they have catered for and been so supportive to a
us as a family.
I have worked in Paediatrics for over 20 years and so I went to great lengths to find excellent childcare that would cater for the learning, development and stimulation whilst being loving and a family type environment. The true testament is from week one our daughter wriggled out my arms to go to them and never cried at drop off. Now she can talk she tells us how much she loves it there and is often asking to see them on the days she's not there!
Working full time is hard, but the regular photos, updates and above and beyond type love and attention make us sure we have found the best setting for our child.
Our daughter is flourishing and just so happy in their care. I cannot recommend them enough.

We visited Lizzy and her partner Debbie, at their home on a Saturday. Their home seemed suitable for child care and after mutual conversation, we decided to move forward with them. We specifically asked if they were available for after school four days a week, and they told us that they were quite available and that they had no problems with the place. We made an agreement with them, they said they would send us the documents to pay them. Since it was our daughter's (3.5 yo) first day to spend with them, we agreed to pick up our daughter from school together the next Monday, and go home together to make a smooth setting for her. On the morning of Monday, they sent us a message and said that another parent had paid before us and that they could only spare two days for us. We were very surprised by this situation because we had already made an agreement and started the process, and they had not yet sent a document for payment. Although this situation saddened us, we still wanted to continue for 2 days since we are full-time working parents. Later in the day, exactly 10 minutes before the agreed time to pick up our daughter from school, they sent another message and said that they would not work with us in those two days, to, but she said that she will come to school to talk.
Since these events shocked us so much, I asked why she behaved like this, she said that they did first-come-first-serve and the other parent paid first, but when I said that we had already started with them and they did not mention such a situation before and we were already waiting for the documents from them, she could not give much of an answer. Afterwards, she accidentally mentioned that they actually met with the other parent after us and that parent was a little insistent. So, basically their words cannot be trusted and they have no respect for the agreement they made with us. As full-time working parents, all our plans were turned upside down that week. After seeing how unprofessional and untrustable they are, we feel lucky that we did not entrust our child to them in the first place.

My 4 year old was looked after by the Smiley Kids team during his settling in period at Reception. Although the time at Smiley Kids was short, I can confidently say that the care they provided for my little one was excellent and extremely enjoyable for him. At the end of each day, it was difficult getting him to leave as he wanted to stay 'just a bit longer'.
The team at Smiley kids are incredibly professional and the space provided for child minding is safe and comfortable with an extension into the garden with great facilities for the children to keep themselves active and engaged. I highly recommend them and will certainly use then again .
