My Summary
About Me
I am a qualified teacher specialising in Early years, English and Special Educational Needs, with a special interest in Autism. I am also NNEB trained and I have recently completed the Tiney training programme and a paediatric first aid course. My ethos is that children learn best through play, when they are happy, relaxed and feel safe and secure. I believe in the holistic approach of making sure the whole child is nurtured and valued as an individual. Positive encouragement in a can do environment makes for contented, confident and curious children.
My Experience
I have been working with children for over 30 years, in both paid and voluntary sectors. I was a baby sitter from the age of 14 and an assistant Rainbow and Brownie leader at the age of 18. I have always loved working with and caring for children. After passing my A'levels, I did an NNEB course, as I wanted to work with children abroad, which I did in a private international nursery school in Elche, which I loved. I then did some nannying in Hertforshire. After that, I worked for 3 years in a lovely little private school, called St Hildas, in the nursery class with a fellow nursery practitioner, who was Montessori trained. This was a beautiful experience and I am basing my childminding on my time there, with different educational activities out on little tables for the children to choose from, plus a home corner, a cosy book corner, a role play shop area and dressing up clothes. I have added different activities based on my subsequent teacher training and experience over the years. I became a qualified lecturer and course team leader, teaching 16 - 19 year olds and adults Level 3 Early years and education courses for many years and gained my Cert Ed. I then worked in the library service as a children's reader development advisor, followed by working several years as an LSA in a very good primary school, working with individual and small groups of children with special educational needs part time, along side teaching and assessing adults doing NVQ Teaching Assistant courses. I worked for child protection and think family services for a year, before becoming a primary teacher, where I gained my QTLS. I then taught in a variety of schools for several years, before working from home as a one to one private tutor, specialising in English and Maths for Early years and KS1 children and English up to GCSE (Language and Literature) including 11 plus, SATS preparation. I have taught and supported many children and young people with Autism over the last few years and have recently completed a course to gain a deeper understanding and knowledge of how to support individuals and their families with Autism. I have also taught children who were unable to attend school for various reasons and helped a small group of children from Afghanistan learn some English skills and pre school skills before starting school, through NTAS (The National Teaching and Advisory Service). I am still teaching from home on a one to one basis on Mondays and Tuesdays. I just wanted to offer a lovely nursery school / Montessori style of childminding to young children, to give them a good start in life for a couple of days a week, plus an afterschool club for a few children too, so they get lots of attention and fun, educational and creative activities to enjoy in a safe, nurturing space in a home environment, with walks in nature and trips to the local park, weather permitting).
