My Experience

Education and Early Career
In 2012, I completed my degree in Education at Cardiff University, followed by a PGCE from University College Birmingham. My career began in 2014 as a Year 2 Class Teacher, where I quickly took on additional responsibilities such as mentoring an ITE and leading Art and DT. My efforts culminated in securing an Artsmark Accreditation for the school, highlighting my ability to drive school-wide initiatives.

Professional Experience Abroad
In 2017, I joined a school in the United Arab Emirates as a Year 4 Classroom Teacher. My dedication and exemplary teaching practice led to my promotion to Year 5 Lead Practitioner, English Lead, and Science Lead. These roles involved strategic curriculum planning for an 18-class cohort and designing a comprehensive CPD calendar. I focused on disseminating research-based practices and fostering an inclusive environment for teachers from diverse backgrounds. My leadership was instrumental in ensuring outstanding teaching and learning through collaborative team teaching and continuous professional development.

Leadership in the UK
Returning to the UK in 2021, I joined another educational institution as KS2 Phase Lead and Year 6 Class Teacher. Here, I successfully rewrote the core curriculum for Year 6 and led the school in their first KS2 SATs, achieving an impressive 83% combined at the expected level and above. As Literacy Lead, ITE and ECT mentor, and Computing Lead, I focused on bridging the gap between research and practice, providing strategic professional development, and ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.

As KS2 Phase Leader, I lead a team of experienced teachers, ECTs, ITEs, Teaching Assistants, and Learning Support Staff. My leadership style is supportive and collaborative, ensuring that all staff members feel valued and heard. I conduct weekly meetings, provide training and coaching, and regularly implement feedback to enhance our teaching practices and professional development programs.

Achievements and Impact
Curriculum Development: Successfully rewrote the Year 6 core curriculum and implemented a new literacy policy, strategy, and post-phonics reading curriculum, leading to a 30% increase in expected standards compared to the previous year.

Leadership and Mentoring: Provided high-quality support and mentorship to trainee teachers, with all my trainees securing teaching positions.

Professional Development: Designed and delivered numerous CPD sessions, parent workshops, and educational content for the school’s YouTube channel, shared across multiple academies within the federation.

Inclusive Practices: Focused on creating a supportive and inclusive environment, ensuring all staff feel valued and heard, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Continuous Learning and Improvement
I stay up-to-date with current pedagogy and education research through my participation in the NPQLL. This knowledge informs my planning of CPD and teacher development programs, ensuring our teaching strategies are grounded in the latest educational research and best practices. This year, without my own class, I have been able to support my phase more effectively and take on additional responsibilities such as implementing a disciplinary literacy strategy, quality assuring planning, and liaising with secondary counterparts to ensure progression across the UKS2 and KS3 curriculum.
