About Me
My husband and I have a newborn son, Theodore (born mid August 2024). We are interested in finding a regular babysitter, with the potential/option to join us on a couple of city break weekends out of town/abroad. Our hope is to find someone who is a great fit and who can work with us for several years.
We are both Americans, from Texas. I (Gina, the mom) work at University of Edinburgh, with some work-from-home days and some in-office days. I am on parental leave until May 2025. My husband (Mike) works as a Software Engineering Manager -- most of the time he works from home. While we love our jobs, our main focus is on creating a warm and nurturing home for Theo. We also have two sweet-tempered cats, Islay (tortie girl) and Bailey (grey tabby boy).
We live in the Canonmills neighbourhood, on the north edge of New Town.
My Requirements
We require someone with experience babysitting for newborns and toddlers. Our main goal is to ensure our son is cared for by a stable, nurturing, engaging sitter with a good understanding of his developmental needs. We hope to find someone who is a great fit and who can stay on as our babysitter for at least a year or two.
We are both creative (dance, music) so would love someone who also shares an interest in the arts -- not necessary, of course, just a bonus! We also love reading and strive to raise our son to have a love of books. Otherwise, we're quite open to any activities you think would be fun and engaging. We're seeking someone proactive who will be comfortable taking Theo out and about, for example to the park or the library.
There would be some light housekeeping duties involved, namely laundry, washing dishes, and keeping the play area and bedroom tidy. (We have a cleaner who comes monthly for deep cleans). We may also require your help feeding the cats their dinner on babysitting nights.
We would prefer someone who has their own car or is comfortable navigating the city with a baby on public transit or by walking (we don't have a car, ourselves, but we do have a car seat for the baby).
We are conscious that the baby has limited protection against Covid since he is currently too young for the vaccine. We would love someone who is willing to stay aware of the air quality when out and about with the baby (we have a CO2 monitor you can use) and potentially take other precautionary measures like masking on busy public transit (we can provide high quality masks).
We expect it would mostly be evenings or weekends, but weekdays for a few hours are possible.
