We interviewed Lauren via videocall and she came to our house for a playdate with our child. Our impressions were good, she seemed competent and good at her job and our child liked her, so we agreed to hire her and we stopped interviewing other nannies.
We had agreed on a settling day for Monday and one for Thursday. On Sunday evening she informed us that she and her child were ill and she would not be able to come on Monday and she would let us know closer to Thursday whether she had recovered by then. We said no problem at all and wished them a speedy recovery. She didn't send any more comms in the next days and on Wednesday evening we texted her to ask if she was better; we had actually started worrying that maybe she or her child had gotten worse. I guess we were too naive and hadn't even imagined that the whole illness thing was a lie. After she received and read our text (on Whatsapp), she blocked me on Whatsapp, and she also blocked my number so we couldn't call her. She also blocked me here on this website. Complete ghosting out of nowhere.
I have no idea why she would behave like this, we were nothing but kind to her and she had seemed excited to start looking after our child. If she found another job she could have just told us so and there would have been no hard feelings.
Instead, she caused us a massive amount of worry and distress and she wasted our time and left us trying to find another nanny last minute.
Such a disappointing ordeal that makes one lose their faith in people.
