About Me

Hi, I am a registered childminder in Edwinstowe, my name is Keely and I am 47years old. I live with my husband and my 2 children who are 16years old and 15 years old. I absolutely love my job, its wonderful to be able to see the children that I care for develop emotionally and physically through their own family and my family environment. I enjoy being able to encourage the children in all areas of their development by taking part in exciting and explorative activities within my setting or in the local community.

Our setting is child led, We follow the childrens interests and next steps are as well as using some activities, topics and themes to build upon and extend knowledge and skills.

The children have free access to the resources in my home, I set up some provocations for the children to develop their exploratory impulses, curiosity and imagination. Spontaneity and tangents are always welcomed. Provocations and open ended resources are continuously available for the children to access independently and adult intervention is only needed to assist or extend.

I have lots of resources to support the childrens play for the inside and outside areas. The children are encouraged to use the resources in an environment that they feel at home and comfortable. The children are encouraged to move around with the resources using them in their own ways. We set up small pockets of interest always with the childrens individual needs and interest as paramount. The children always have access to a very sensory environment with lots of use of messy and malleable play. We use playdough, goop, shaving foam, clay etc... I have dressing up, an outdoor kitchen area and create other roleplay areas as and when the children request.

We enjoy singing, the children learn about rhythm and use musical instruments. I have lots and lots of books which the children enjoy reading independently but best of all we love to share them and read together. To add to this we often visit the library. I have lots of natural open ended resources small and large for the children to use when constructing, using their imaginations during small world play etc... I have quite a large garden which the children can freely access, I have a swing, climbing frame, pikler triangles, cable reels, guttering, piping, den building equipment that again the children can move and construct in their own ways. I also use this area for sand and water. We love to do lots of cooking and have made lots of different recipes sweet and savoury.

I take the children out in to the local community as much as possible, visiting lots of natural play spaces and country parks, farm parks and soft play so that they have the opportunity to explore the different environments and are able to develop lots of different skills such as social skills, fine and gross motor skills as well as broadly covering the seven areas of learning.
