Pound Park Nursery School has been educating local children since 1944 and it’s built a strong reputation across Greenwich.
The nursery school is proud of its family atmosphere and love of the outdoors.
Pound Park is known locally for its gardens, woodland area, dens and places to climb.
“ The space allows our children to explore and learn in all weathers,” says head teacher, Sarah Harrison.
The approach to early education and educare remains the same here as it did when the school was first built back in 1944. We still very much believe in the ‘open-air’ philosophy of nursery education by giving children rich opportunities to learn outdoors, challenge themselves and take risks in their play.”
Pound Park has been described as a hidden oasis, where children come to have fun and learn lots along the way.
The children have created their own garden and grow fruit and vegetables, which they harvest and cook for snacks.
They independently plant flowers, trees and herbs and recently caught the eye of judges from the Greenwich in Bloom Awards.
Head teacher Sarah Harrison believes it’s the environment at Pound Park that enables the children to make their own choices and select the tools and materials they need for all sorts of projects and play. Staff support and guide them, which encourages critical thinking and problem solving.
There’s something for everyone at Pound Park: street dance, sports skills, interactive music sessions, woodwork, language groups and in Forest school skills such as building fires, using bow saws and whittling are taught.
Local trips are highly valued with visits to the Emirates cable cars, Chinese supermarket, National Maritime Museum, pet shop, Woolwich market, fire station and Maryon Wilson Animal Park.
Staff at Pound Park are highly qualified and passionate about delivering the best early education and care. Because it’s a nursery school, they have a qualified teacher in each classroom and a qualified Head teacher, all with a specialism in early education.
Ofsted has repeatedly graded Pound Park as Outstanding and described it as ‘a Forest School Centre of Excellence’.
Our Childcare Provision
Pound Park is open 8am til 6pm, Monday- Friday, offering full time and part time places for children aged 2-4. Children are offered free 15 hours childcare, the term after they are three years old.
