Support Worker
Background to the job
Arabella, 13 , is currently recruiting for a full time support worker in the Wallingford/Oxfordshire area. Arabella acquired a brain injury at birth and now suffers from epilepsy and mild physical disabilities. She attends a mainstream school locally full time.

Available shifts
Term Time
• Monday to Friday- 7.30-10.30 and 14.30-19.00
• Alternate Saturday’s 9.00 – 16.00
School Holiday
• 5 days per week 8.00-19.00
• Alternate Saturdays 9.00 – 16.00
Some flexibility with holiday hours can be discussed for the right candidate.
Arabella is a typical young teenage girl who enjoys listening to music, using her devices. She enjoys baking, going to cafes and being around her horses. She is a very independent and able girl who requires some support to help her access the community and support her with her therapy programmes.
Arabella has a full team of therapists who provide input to support her development. The successful candidate will need to be able to engage Arabella in her therapy programmes with a fun and exciting approach. This will allow Arabella to progress with her targets outside of her therapist lead sessions.

Rates of Pay: £15-18.00 per hour

Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a support worker to Arabella you will be enabling her to engage in meaningful activities to support her interests, education and therapy goals.

The support worker is required to take and collect from school each day using the family’s adapted vehicle and support her with her morning and afternoon routines.

Arabella is a typical young teenage girl and does require someone proactive who will plan fun, age-appropriate activities to encourage her participate as much as practicably possible and take part yourself when appropriate.

Arabella can become anxious, so someone with a caring and empathetic nature is required to support her during these times and empower her to make her own choices.

As a support worker you will need to work in line with her care plans, ensuring that you read and remain up to date will all support plans, risk assessments and advice given by professionals regarding Arabella’s care.

The family have horses and there is an option of additional hours spent exercising the horses.
