My Summary
About Me
My name is Kathleen Mcinerney (Kathy).
My interests are personal fitness and professional development. Since beginning my career as a childminder in 2004 I have studied early years, gaining an Early Years Degree. I then continued my professional development to obtain a BA(HONS) in Education as well as a Level 3 in Forest School Leadership.
The setting is a first floor maisonette with a private and secure outdoor space based in Clapham Common, just a few mins from Clapham Common tube station. The setting has some storage for buggies as well as a well organised space and toys for outdoor play. There are excellent tube, over-ground and bus transport services, all situated locally and just a few mins walk from the setting. We like to keep very busy and spend a lot of time in the outside environment on Clapham Common, again just a few mins walk. The common, local parks, soft play areas, museums and children's farms keep us entertained when we aren't at home as well visiting playgroup in our local community, run by Holy Trinity Church based at the common.
We have a close relationship with The Spinney based on Clapham Common. We attend many sessions of Mud Club, enabling lots of messy play with water and natural materials found within the grounds as well as investigation of small insects and other wildlife found locally. The freedom to explore independently allows children time to practice new found skills and build confidence in their abilities.
My Experience
I have three grown-up children of my own and have been registered with Ofsted as a childminder for more than nineteen years. Before this I was developing my knowledge of children and education in nursery as well as primary school settings. I spent many years volunteering at the Spinney based on Clapham Common , encouraging children to explore their natural environment and build self-confidence whilst caring for our local community.
My Qualifications
I have continued to develop my professional practice in childcare and early education, attending workshops and seminars on a regular basis as well as studying at degree level.

Kathy looked after my daughter from 15 months onwards. Put simply, Kathy is a star and I couldn’t recommend her more highly. My daughter has been really happy with Kathy and has come on leaps and bounds. My daughter loves to show me the new things she learns with Kathy!
Kathy is reliable, level-headed and takes the stress out of parenting as the children learn so many life skills during their time with her. The children have a great routine, do lots of activities, spend lots of times outdoors and meet lots of other children. Kathy shares photos frequently to keep me updated and provides a report on a weekly basis.
Kathy began looking after our daughter when she was just 10 months old. As first time parents, we were nervous about how our daughter would settle but almost instantly our daughter felt safe with Kathy. She provided love, stimulation and a safe environment where she has thrived for the past 2 1/2yrs.
Kathy is reliable, active and straightforward. She communicates both the highlights and any areas of concern to enable working together. She sends over lovely photos to keep you in the loop of their activities. Kathy keeps the children active and engaged in fun physical activities throughout the day. My daughter was confidently wizzing around on a scooter at 18months, all thanks to Kathy!
Kathy works on a child’s sense of independence and this assisted in a smooth transition to a nursery setting.
The only reason we are leaving Kathy’s wonderful care is due to moving out of the area. We will all miss her greatly!
Kathy is quite simply the best childminder. She is everything we wanted and so much more (we have two boys aged 2 and 4 that started with Kathy from 11 months). Never have the boys had separation anxiety or not wanted to go to her. They just loved her from the start and that was such a huge weight of my mind knowing they are genuinely happy when they are with her. She is completely reliable, full of energy, so proactive, always planning ahead and encouraging of us as parents and towards the children. Kathy was the one that suggested and successfully potty trained both my children (both before they turned 2 and they are boys!). She got them scooter trained and taught my eldest son to ride his bike (with pedals) before his 3rd birthday. She also takes him to swimming lessons mid-week as she identified he was ready – and he was. I know it’s down to Kathy’s encouragement and perseverance that all these milestones have been achieved so soon. She definitely has the children's best interests at heart and will go out of her way to fit it all in to her week.
Kathy has a good network of friends that are other mums, nannies and childminders so there is always lots of children playing together on the common. My children have built close friendships with these other children that they see regularly as well as the other family she looks after (who like a brother and sister to my boys now). I always say my children have a better social life than I do! If Kathy can be outdoors with the children she will be. Come rain or shine. She is always on the common, at mud club, visiting different parks and playgrounds. When its school holidays she takes the children off to museums, the zoo, she has even taken them all to the seaside. I told you she was amazing! It really is a lovely little community my children have been lucky enough to be part of. My children started with Kathy when they were just under a year. Kathy would take them to a different baby/toddler group every day introducing routine and structure to their days which they thrived off. Even when they are at Kathy’s home they are always making, building, creating, learning. Being plonked in front of the TV is not something that would ever happen! Kathy produces amazing memory books. You truly appreciate how much she does with the children when you see these books and how happy the children are in all the pictures and how much they have developed.
The only reason we have had to stop having Kathy is due to moving out the area. Anyone that is fortunate enough to have Kathy take care of their children is truly lucky. She is more than a childminder. Our children love her so much. We all do!
We have been thrilled to have found a childminder as fantastic as Kathy. Our daughter settled much quicker than I thought she would given that she was almost one when she started. Kathy is patient, professional, organised and pays great attention to the children's needs.
Emily is happy when I leave her with Kathy in the morning (she's usually itching to get in so that she can have her breakfast) and she's happily playing when I collect her at the end of the day. We really feel that Emily has flourished since she has been with Kathy. She has the chance to meet loads of other children and takes part in lots of different activities (including music and gardening - particular favourites) and goes on outings to parks, museums, play areas and the children's centre.
We get feedback from Kathy every day on what is planned for the day and how the day's gone, including any milestones / new achievements; we also get to see photos of Emily taking part in activities and have a written record. Kathy is straight-talking and would say if there were a problem, which is very reassuring. In the fairly short time she has been looking after Emily, Kathy has been willing to “go the extra mile†including taking Emily to the doctor when she became unwell and is as flexible as possible. It is a big weight off my mind when I am at work to know Emily is in such good hands. Overall, we cannot recommend Kathy highly enough.
Kathy is absolutely great, and Herbie loves her. Herbie took a long few weeks to settle in and Kathy had the patience of a saint. He is now so happy with Kathy that he leaps out of my arms every morning. Herbie has only been with Kathy for four months and it would be a lot longer if we weren’t moving out of the area. Kathy is an incredibly active person and keeps a very structured busy day for the children she cares for. She is a no nonsense kind of person and will tell you exactly how it is, which has worked brilliantly for us. I trust Kathy implicitly and she comes with a big recommendation from us.
