My Summary
Twice Outstanding Childminder In Muswell Hill
About Me
I have been an Ofsted-registered childminder since 2007 (graded outstanding at my last two inspections), and run my setting from my 4 bedroom house with a large garden.
I provide different age-appropriate activities for the children to ensure that they cover the different developmental areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage, whilst learning through play. Toys and activities include soft textured toys, wooden blocks, Lego/Duplo, dressing-up outfits, musical instruments, outdoor equipment, ICT equipment, letter and number play, magnets, puzzles, dolls, “small world” toys, vehicles, balls (for indoor and outdoor), board games, hama beads, painting, drawing, sticking, gluing, cutting, playdough, baking, and more. We go on daily outings to playgroups, parks, the library, or sometimes a farm, soft play area, museum or zoo.
I provide healthy meals (lunch and dinner) and snacks, and cater for a range of different dietary requirements. Children have their own bedrooms to sleep in, in cots or on sleeping mats.
My Experience
I have over 20 years childcare experience, looking after children from birth upwards.
I have 3 grown up children of my own, who have all left home.
My Qualifications
I have completed courses in paediatric first aid, safeguarding and child protection, child development, working with children with special needs, speech and language development, managing behaviour, food hygiene, and anaphylaxis. I have a foundation degree in Early Years and a Diploma in Home-based childcare, as well as a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Economics, Business Administration and Information Systems.

Emma has been looking after our son for over 2 years. He's developed so much in this time, and loved his time with Emma. She's an excellent communicator and gives us both written and verbal updates regularly. She's also highly organised, planning her holidays an eye-watering distance in advance, and thinking about different activities for the children in her care depending on the weather.
Most importantly though she's caring, supportive and fun. Knowing that when we drop off our son he's going somewhere he enjoys being, with a person who really cares for him, is a huge achivement. Anybody who gets a spot with Emma is really lucky, and we've felt that way.
We have been so lucky to find Emma. Our daughter comes back yabbering away about her fun-filled days. She absolutely loves going and her development has soared since being there. Emma’s house is beautiful, light and spacious - the perfect place for a child. She cooks meals that put me to shame! She is so in demand and we feel so lucky that we got a place and that our daughter spends her days with her.
My children have been looked after by Emma since my youngest was 10 months (he’s now 3.5 years). When I tell local mums in the area that our childminder is Emma, they always say “wow you’re so lucky, I’ve heard she’s amazing” and they are absolutely spot on.
My oldest child is now at school, so is no longer in Emma’s care and my youngest child will be going to preschool soon, so devastatingly will no longer be being looked after by Emma. She has been such a huge part of our lives over the past few years and we are all very sad to leave her as she really does feel a part of the family (although I will be pestering her for after school spots).
I honestly couldn’t have asked for a more perfect person to look after my children. My transition back to work, leaving 2 small children, was only bearable because of Emma. She has the loveliest nature, making my children feel safe, heard and encouraged. She’s very calm, yet attentive. She has conversations with them, using their name, talking with them as people not at them as children which is something that has really stood out to me. She knows their likes, dislikes, knows when they are not themselves. She remembers and lets me know funny things my son has said or done throughout the day when I do the pick up. I trust her entirely.
My son loves being in Emma’s care. He loves her cooking (he tells me “I only like Emma’s carrots”), they go out for walks, they go to playgroup and interact with other children. He was very excited recently and came home telling me about the “chrysalis” of the butterflies that were recently grown at Emma’s.
To sum Emma up:
- Best childminder you could ever have the pleasure of caring for your children
- Best decorated house on Halloween in Muswell Hill
- The only house that a rockstar Santa Claus visits
Emma is beyond brilliant and we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have found her. Calm and nurturing, with a fantastic sense of humour, she's created a really special environment. She's incredibly astute and responsive to each child's individual character and needs and we felt our son was really 'seen'. He flourished from the get go and was always bubbling with excitement on his way home, high on his various adventures with the gang. He's a very talkative toddler and Emma took his imagination and ran with it... Watching the two of them chatting and laughing away together was genuinely magic. It's also worth noting that our son began napping in a cot (from day 1!), something he had NEVER done before... Yet more evidence of her magical powers.
I should mention the healthy, interesting meals Emma cooks and the thoughtful activities and trips she organises... all of which are hugely important. What sets Emma apart is the sense of warmth and contentment that runs through the house. The children are incredibly happy and settled with her - confident to express themselves and their feelings.
We sadly had to move away from the area and I can honestly say leaving Emma was the hardest part. Our son continues to talk about her months later and often asks to look through the little memory book she kindly gave him on his last day. He had an incredibly unique and playful bond with Emma and it's one we will always be grateful for. If there's a space for your child - SNAP IT UP and cherish every moment. Emma is truly the best kept secret in North London.
Emma has been a lifesaver and had our little 2 year old boy for the last 3 months, 1 day a week while I’ve been working full time leading up to my maternity leave with my second baby. We instantly liked Emma when we met her, not only was she very professional, organised and has a lovely house and garden on the side of a park, but most importantly she instantly showed particular interest in our little boy asking lots of questions and showing him round the toys in her house and this was very important to us.
It was amazing to see how quickly he settled in, day one he ate and slept well and was very happy when we picked him up. He came out the second week saying ‘Emma like’ and how he ‘liked the park’ which is the first time we’d heard him say he likes things. He’s always been very happy to be dropped off and I’ve noticed his verbal communication improving whilst he’s been with her as has his physical development with all the trips to the park.
She cooks a wonderful variety of food and I’m pleased Laurie’s been exposed to a more varied diet than usual, eating more exotic meals than I would make at home ( or that he would eat for me anyway).
We are sad to be leaving Emma, but will certainly look / hope to return to her when I go to back to work after maternity. We would absolutely recommend 💯.
