My Summary
About Me
Happy Steps is a professional home-based care for children aged 0-5, located in Platt’s Lane near West Hampstead, Hampstead and Childs Hill. It was set up in 2013 and since then has been run by an Early Years Teacher, supported by a highly qualified and experienced team.
We have used the knowledge and experience gained from teaching and caring for children to create a professional home-based care, where every child feels safe, is ready to play, explore and learn, while being supported by experienced and dedicated staff.
The Happy Steps journey started in Fortune Green near West Hampstead in a child-friendly house and due to great demand it has moved to a bigger, even greater place in Platt’s Lane, NW3 7NS with a fantastic garden, which provides children with opportunities for great outdoor play. At Happy Steps we have various rooms dedicated to different types of children's activities (story time, art and craft, and sleep time).
We gained our experience and knowledge while studying various aspects of child development (BSc, Psychology - Child Development) and while obtaining teaching qualifications for the early age group (PgDip: Early Years Teacher Status).
Our determination, innovative ideas and positive attitude developed during a number of extensive training courses, as well as experience gained over 10 years allows us to offer professional and personalised approach to each child under our care. We constantly seek new challenges and find out new ways of ensuring children’s healthy development.
At Happy Steps, our activities are carefully selected in line with the EYFS framework to ensure children’s optimal development.
Our daily activities are well-balanced and include: messy play, painting, drawing, collage, other art and craft activities, cooking, baking, food preparation, puzzles, mega blocks, Lego, free play, dressing up, role play, drama, singing, dancing, music time with musical instruments, physical activities, baby yoga, gymnastics, tummy time for the little ones, story time, rhyme time, storytelling and story-building, treasure basket, learning numbers and phonics, pretended play and learning different languages, among other things.
Every child at Happy Steps will have the comfort of daily routines (nap time, story time, meal time, music/relaxation time) together with the more exciting activities like: outings to Golders Hill Parks and farms, trips to the local shops, markets and the library, to engage children in the activities of the local community. We encourage children to take part in various other age-appropriate and home-based creative activities.
We take pride in providing a safe, secure, creative and stimulating environment where each child feels unique and is approached in an individual way. We follow the EYFS guidelines to plan all our activities, taking into account children’s age, abilities, interests and individual learning styles.
Happy Steps takes into consideration three main aspects of supporting children’s optimal development which include: a unique child approach, enabling environments and building positive relationships. Furthermore, we support learning about the natural world, living things, changing seasons, etc. We also organise picnics in the summer and do much more. Children are naturally curious and love learning new things, so we provide them with the opportunity to select individual activities, which correspond to their interests.
At Happy Steps, we teach about the importance of being together, self-care, sense of community, communication, language and literacy, problem solving, creative expression, knowledge and understanding of the world. We practice confidence-building, expressing feelings, belonging to a group and provide a secure base for exploring new things, freedom of expression and conflict resolution.
Children come to the world with enormous curiosity about their environment and we believe it is our responsibility to support them in their learning process by providing the best resources and practice. Being a high-quality home-based childcare, which was rated outstanding by Ofsted in April 2016, we take pride in approaching each child individually in order to help them achieve their developmental goals. We recognise that every child has a unique way of learning and achieving developmental goals.
Our written observations and integral approach to the parent-practitioner partnership help us recognise the child’s unique way of learning and to match the most suitable curriculum. At Happy Steps, we are curious about your child’s background, likes/dislikes and routines. By getting to know your child better, we aim to enhance our curriculum by extra activities through which we celebrate our differences.
We take pride in our commitment to healthy eating and nutrition. Our meals are always freshly prepared, taking into account all special dietary needs, as well as religious and moral beliefs.
As a friendly, professional and dynamic team, we perceive childcare as a serious and responsible profession, and invest in continuous learning and deepening of our knowledge and expertise.
Many years of practicing and gathering theoretical knowledge helped us develop the expertise in supporting children with their unique talents and reaching developmental milestones. We are individuals with lots of energy and imagination who love to work together and help children achieve their best.
Happy Steps childcare is based at home therefore provides safe and fun environment for each child to flourish, have fun and relax. It is based in Platt’s Lane with easy access to West Hampstead (Underground, Overground and Thameslink), Hampstead, Finchley Road and Golders Green. If you live locally and are looking for warm, friendly and professional childcare for your little one please contact us. We would be happy to meet up, show you around our premises and explain more about our work.

My son started at Happy Steps when he was 14 months old and settled quickly after a bad experience at a large nursery. The setting is a lovely family environment and really is the best of both worlds - offering the security, care, kindness and individual attention you get from a childminder with the social side and variety of activities of a nursery environment. Kinga really took the time to get to know my child's personality, often tailoring the day to his needs or interests. In just a few months, I was staggered at the leaps my son made in his development. By the age of 2, his confidence and communication skills were very advanced and due to plenty of encouragement from staff, he was fully potty trained in the day. I don't believe he would have got that amount of attention or assistance in a larger setting.
Kinga is extremely qualified and professional, keeping parents well informed on the day as well as providing lots of photos which were always very comforting to look at when I was at the office.
