My Summary
About Me
My name is Gemma and I am 45 years old.
I live in Pembury with my 3 beautiful children, 2 daughters aged 22 and 17 and my son aged 19, along with my husband. I also have a step son who comes to visit half of the week. We have 3 cats who are very happy keeping themselves to themselves either outside or upstairs! We also have two dogs who have a wonderful temperament and are fantastic with children.
We have lived in Pembury for 14 years and I wouldn't change it for the world. My children all attended the nursery and primary school here and all loved it there. Our house has a great sized back garden which the children love spending as much time in as possible on dry days and in the summer.
Locally there is a great park and plenty of woodland and orchards which serve us well for stunning walks.
As time has gone by, I have realised that being there for my children as much as possible is the most important thing as a parent, but I realise that this is not always possible for parents due to work commitments etc. This is why I decided to become a childminder, because I would like to offer that home-from-home environment and make it as fun and creative as possible whilst still maintaining that essential structure to childrens lives.
As well as offering my services as a childminder, my husband is also registered with Ofsted as my childminding assistant. Mark holds a current paediatric first aid certificate along with his Ofsted registration. We find that as a team, we work very well together. Mark carries out most of the domestic duties including preparing of all snacks and meals and is generally fun to be around, the children all love him!
Mark does all the school & nursery runs to pembury school and is well known to all the staff at the school and parents.
My Experience
I love getting creative with children in all forms of craft, be it painting, play doh, messy play, baking, the list is endless!
I aim to deliver a high standard in childcare whilst making it fun, enjoyable and relaxed for the children in my care.
I have recently undertaken some online training in order to become a member of the Forest Childcare
Association. As a member of the Forest Childcare Association I practice the Five Principles of Forest
Childcare and endeavour to put these principles into practice at my setting.
The Five Principles of Forest Childcare are:
1. The Forest Childcare Provider takes the children
to an outdoor environment normally once a week
2. Forest Childcare outings are made as safe as is
reasonably possible by the childcare provider while
encouraging children to learn to take their own risks
3. Forest Childcare outings are taken all year long, so children go outside whatever the weather
4. The Forest Childcare Provider offers a mixture of
planned and child-led play activities to the children
5. The Forest Childcare Provider is first aid trained
I believe there are so many positive outcomes that can be achieved for the children by attending my Forest Childcare outings.
I am full of ideas with how to make your childs time fun and am also open to ideas from you the parent/carer and also the children too. As much as I would like to structure each day for the children, I will happily tailor to meet the needs - and wants - of each child as much as I can.

After a few distressful sessions at a nursery with my daughter, I decided to try a childminder and itโs the best decision I ever made. Gemma & Mark made me feel at ease leaving my daughter with them, she absolutely loves going there and they have helped her settle so quickly. Would highly recommend ๐
