My Summary
About Me
I consider myself to be a hard working individual and am fully committed to everything I do. I am an approachable person who can work well in a team as well as individually. Whenever faced with a task I complete it to the highest standard and will act upon any advice given. Through previous work placements and being a university student I have worked alongside a number of adults which has developed my communication skills. As well as this I have worked with a number of children ranging in age and abilities. This is a great passion of mine which is why I am currently studying to become a qualified primary school teacher. I have a wide range of activities and hobbies, I highly enjoy socialising with friends and family. I am particularly interested in crafts and enjoy the challenge of making something rather than buying it. I love swimming in my spare time and also like bike riding. I enjoy most sports and particularly enjoy teaching physical education during my teaching practice as well as design technology and art. I also enjoy cooking and baking activities in my spare time. Reading is also a interest of mine as I have to read a lot for my degree.
My Experience
I am currently studying to become a primary school teacher and have carried out 3 8 week placements as the class teacher in 3 separate school. I have worked in a Private day nursery on cover over the summer holidays so I also have experience with newborns and babies. As well as the academic side to caring for children I have a vast amount of experience outside the classroom. I have worked in a soft play gym as a party host entertaining children and creating a fun but safe environment. As well as this I have been a baby sitter to close family friends since i turned fifteen...Over the summer of 2013 I worked for the English holiday company Mark Warner as a children's activity leader. This involved planning activities for children of all ages and carrying out these activities to make the children's holiday a fun and enjoyable time but also gaining the trust of the parents to leave their children in my care. I have much more experience including pre- school work and teaching assistant experience. I have a driven passion to care for children and make sure children feel safe and trust me as well as enjoying themselves and making the most of the time I spend with them.
Mark Warner 2013
Over the summer of 2013 I spent 3 months working abroad for the English holiday company Mark Warner as a children's activity leader. This involved caring for children between the age of 6 months up to 17 years. I would plan and carry out age appropriate activities for all groups.
Geronimo’s February 2008- August 2011
I began my first job working in a children’s play centre when I turned sixteen. This involved interacting with children of all ages. My job role was to make an entertaining and exciting place for children to play whilst supervising and following health and safety. This job also involved dealing and interacting with the general public, this meant I had to enhance my communication skills.
St Michaels & All angels CE School 2008-
I have a wide range of experience within this school. I began as a volunteer at the age of sixteen. I have worked throughout each class and have also worked in a year two class as a teaching assistant on a weekly basis. During my time at the school I have encountered many different situations and had to use a number of skills to overcome problems within the classroom.
During my time at the school I also took on the roll as a support assistant for a child with Down’s syndrome and a child with Autism. This involved working with the children three mornings a week, following each child’s IEP in order to improve their learning.
St Michaels & All angels Pre School 2009-
In 2009 I became a supply member of staff for the pre-school. I undertook the role of a nursery nurse, looking after young children between the ages of two and four.
Working in this environment I began to realise the differences between the behaviour of children of different ages. I worked as part of a large team to improve the quality of care each child received.
Social Carer 2011-
I have been also been given the opportunity to work as a carer for a teenage boy with downs syndrome. My duties involved occupying the boy and a friend of his who also suffers with the disability (he also had a carer present). My duties would involve entertaining the boys by going to the cinema or bowling etc.
Newlands Nursery
2012-
I have been back to Newlands Nursery over the summer of 2012. This time I had the role as a supply nursery nurse and was far more involved with the children carrying out activities with pre-school children aged between 2-3.
University of Derby
2011-present
As part of my degree it is a course requirement that we carry out 9 weeks placement per year, within a primary school setting. This is an on-going experience of mine and involves planning and teaching lessons, as well as observing their development and carrying out typical day to day classroom duties.
