About Me

Hi my name is Kim . I live with my partner and our 2 children aged 10 and 17 We are a smoke free house. We have no pets. I am situated near cairdpark/kids world. My partner has been pvg checked and is also registered as my assistant and my 17 year old son have been disclosure scotland and pvg checked.

My Experience

I have worked with Dundee City Council for the last 7 years as a Health and Wellbeing assistant and a learning and care assistant, prior to this I was a registered childminder for 14 years.
I have worked with children from both mainstream classes and ASN classes and for the last five years I have worked in our school's nurture room, this room has children who require additional support and nurturing. I have also been a part of a small team working in our specialist provision classroom.
The children I work with often display challenging behaviours also physically, mentally and emotionally behaviours.
I have provided support to children with ADHD, ADD, Autism, Tourettes and ODD, PDA, DLD and with children who have and are still living with trauma, I work with both verbal and non verbal children.
The children are Primary 1 through to Primary 7.
I work closely with our children and their families to understand what strategies and routines work best for them including what may trigger, heighten or calm them, help them to regulate and to de escalate the situation, this could be anything from a blanket, soft play, story to a jigsaw. Its all about knowing your children. I work alongside children to help them in understanding how to manage their emotions, teach them how to be able to self regulate themselves and how to ignore behaviours and actions of others.
I am trained in de-escalation, calms training, restorative training, first aid, trauma informed practice, shanarri, Girfec, childhood trauma and  providing enhanced support, I have recently finished training in stimming and schemas. I have gtlreat understanding that  for children to have successful outcomes they must be included, listened to and respected. The last few months I have worked with very different groups of children from various classes, doing groups including bucket time, relax kids, social skills, life skills etc, this has brought new challenges but challenges I have enjoyed, these include learning to listen, interact, engage, play, sharing, turn taking and also encouraging children to have the confidence  to step out of their comfort zone and learn new skills.
I am a very patient understanding person who thrives on a challenge, I believe all behaviour is a form of communication, whether physical, verbal or non verbal.
I am a positive person who always gives my all, I show affection, nurturing and kindness.
I promote children's health and wellbeing, I keep them safe, help them learn and develop an try to make the day as successful as possible.
I have experience withvisual timetables and schedules and am fully aware of the impact for routine, I have experience with first and then board, activity boards, I need board and am currently using
core boards for children who are nonverbal and also for children who are verbal and find it difficult to name the emotion or find the voice when heightened.

I am a very kind, caring nurturing and understanding person, who believes in everyday is a new day. I believe days can be turned around and everyday can have success. I am respectful, polite, resourceful and a very positive person. I am enthusiastic and love a challenge and learning/ developing new skills.
My passion is children, I love being part of their lives, getting to know them as individuals, being part of everyday life, this includes the negatives and positives, the challenges, the rewards, development and learning. I am flexible and have no dependants at home, my own children are now aged 18 and 25 years old, and feel this is the right time to pursue my career and would love the opportunity to be part of a new team and learn new skills and challenges whilst providing children, families and the wider community with the love, dignity and respect I have for my own family.
I am calms trained, also trained and up to date in pediatric first aid,
I have sat modules including moving and handling and food hygiene - level 2. I have completed all the
e-modules required at current employment, I enjoy undertaking new challenges and learning .
I have skills in working with children and families who experience anxiety, separation anxiety, low confidence and low self esteem.
I have previous experience with transitions, children and families find it difficult to transition, not just from year to year but also through day between classes, breaks, different staff, teachers etc, I have been working with children for years who find transitioning difficult, working
together to find strategies to ease the anxiety between transitions.
I have worked with families, one on one and small group to support children to stay focused as well as attend school.
During my time at work, I have led a healthy eating group and introduced a healthy tuckshop, relax kids, bucket time, attention Autism, social skills. I am also confident in board maker, core boards, communication boards, pec cards.
