About Me
We are a married couple living in Flax Bourton. We have three beautiful sons, James who was born in May 2015 and Rupert who arrived in April 2017. Teddy was born in August 2023.
When our older boys were babies we had some wonderful nannies who looked after them for us when we returned to work. Then both boys were in full time nursery and both loved that too. They are very resilient and happy characters and have always adapted to changes really well. We try to support them and listen to them if they tell us they are worried.
James is at primary school in Backwell, where he has settled really well and is now in year 3! Rupert is in year 1 at Flax Bourton Primary. We are both in professional job roles that can put pressure on pick ups and drop offs. At present both boys have breakfast club and after school club slots but even that can be challenging time wise and on Fridays the after school club finishes early making things trickier. We would therefore be be interested in having a nanny who could pick the boys up in the evenings as we’re both essentially full time. We would also be keen to offer additional hours to help with the kids laundry and some housework. We have no family locally so we’re also keen to build up a trusted contact list of babysitters and child minders to help where needed.
A little about the boys...
James is a wonderful nine year old. He is sensitive, chatty and fun. He constantly describes the world he sees around him and loves learning new facts and reading books. He plays football and this has been a real love of his. He enjoys numbers and code breaking puzzles. He needs some direction for entertainment sometimes but will get stuck into gardening and walks. He has a real fascination and interest in travel (despite our paltry holiday record) and he is desperate to go to far flung shores. Recently he has found things really difficult and we have been navigating some difficult behaviour. He has been angry and sad and this has been really hard for us to see. We are looking for someone who will really take interest in him and help us rebuild his confidence. He needs a lot of input to feel valued in our rabble and it’s clear he will need someone who will set boundaries and take a firm but fair approach and make an effort to include him too.
Rupert is our seven year old. He is totally crazy in a good way. He is full of beaming smiles and tries to make everyone around him laugh and smile. He desperately wants to be like his big brother and copies him all the time. He can bicker with him though and they do sometimes get heated. Rupert is relentlessly positive, bright, active, resourceful and is amazing at entertaining himself and thinking of new things to do. He’s also a little stubborn. His imagination is awesome. He makes up games all the time, loves art and writing. He is writing several books and always has a notebook or reading book on hand. He likes rereading the skandar series at the moment.
Teddy is 2 years old and is our little boss. He loves his older brothers and is at the stage of wanting to do everything and repeating words and sentences. He’s happy, bouncy and loves to sing. He is interested in everything and engages with everyone. He’s friendly with people. He is trying so hard to be independent at the moment and has recently potty trained. He gets frustrated when he needs help with his trousers sometimes! He has a mixture of nanny and nursery through the week. We are usually home after 6 for bedtime and at the weekend.
As a family, we love being outdoors and are always busy when we have time off together; visiting family, walking in the woods by our house, or even going further afield up hills and on coastal walks. We take our children out to the local parks, national trust properties and to local classes and enjoy camping trips. We love food and all things that bring people together. We try and make dinner times a social time for the family although midweek its often not possible. Also the art of dinnertime conversation is a little lost on James...How was your day? Ive forgotten, is the usual response! But we still want to encourage this.
We have a garden and forest walks from the house so we try and spend time outside even when we are at home. Our house is modest, but has all the things you need. We can be a bit messy but mostly try hard to make sure its decent! We have plenty of toys and things to do. Our neighbours are also friendly!
My Requirements
Overall we’re looking for childcare to help navigate our professional and home life. The biggest challenge is the breakfast run but the evening is difficult too. Therefore we would consider a nanny who can assist with pick ups and drop offs (school wrap around). However we would also consider a nanny 3-4 days a week to also look after Teddy during the day as well as pick up and drop the older boys at school/clubs. Our location is relatively rural so a driving licence / car will be needed.
