About Me

I am a 30 year old experienced teacher and tutor. I am a qualified teacher and adore helping children master something which they have been finding difficult. I fully believe in enjoyment being necessary for good learning so I do my best to make the subjects more exciting.

My Experience

I have a range of childcare experience both paid and voluntary. I worked as an assistant at my local Rainbows for two years, helping each week run the activities and lead the songs the games. As well as babysitting and childcare for people in my village I have also been employed in a childcare capacity. I worked last summer as a camp counsellor in America for Girl Scouts of America. It was amazing fun but was also an experience for me to learn many new skills. The children were from all over the state and presented a few behaviour problems that I had not experienced before, it was interesting to learn how to work around those kinds of issues and really pushed me. I have also spent a total of 17 months abroad as an au pair where I looked after children ranging from 1-10. As well as that I spent two months in a special needs primary school as an assistant in a class of children with mixed abilities aged 5-9. The majority go the children were on the autistic spectrum and their level of functioning was a large range.

I have tutored many children previously in maths, reading, writing and speech. One child I tutored for six months and during that time she moved up two levels in her maths class as well as achieving a level 3 on her Year 2 SATs when originally her teacher hadn't even planned to let her sit the higher paper. Another young girl I worked with was in Year 3 and struggled with maths to the point where she dreaded going into class. I worked with her for a few months and she started to enjoy maths more, being excited when I came around to work with her. Within a few weeks she'd won a maths award at school and her teachers were impressed at her willingness to raise her hand. Recently I have just finished working with a child I started working with in Year 3. He was initially working at a Reception level but has just passed his Year 6 SATs and is heading off to High School.

I am a qualified teacher entering into my eighth of teaching meaning that I am familiar with the expectations set by schools and many of the schemes which they use.

I am also a qualified first aider, having attended a 2 day training course as well as extra CPR and fire safety training.

My Qualifications

PGCE and Qualified Teaching Status as well as DBS check.
