About Me

Hello. I’m Gemma from Busy Little Learners Childminding. I am a mum of a seven year old and a four year old. I have lived in Portlethen for most of my life and have enjoyed raising my children in the local area.

After spending the last seven years focussing on my two children, I am excited to get back into the career sector that I love, in my new role as a childminder.

Before my career break I gained 10 years’ childcare experience from my roles as a Nursery Nurse, gaining my NVQ 2 and NVQ 3 qualifications, and then later as a Sole Charge Nanny.

I am passionate about children’s learning and development and have always been keen to continue my life long learning in this area. I am particularly interested in the Montessori approach to hands on learning activities.

In my setting I am excited to support each child as they reach their full potential and meet age appropriate milestones, furthering their development while having fun in a relaxed and caring home environment.

At Busy Little Learners Childminding all planning will be child centred with GIRFEC - Getting It Right For Every Child - at the heart of everything we do. Each child will have their own folder which contains their “All About Me” and a Learning Log which will be reviewed every 6 months. I am really looking forward to working on the Learning Logs in partnership with parents. There is nothing better than watching a child reach a milestone or master a new skill, no matter how big or small.

I believe in making the most of time spent outside especially in warm weather. The children will have lots of opportunities to explore nature on walks in the local area and, of course, trips to the parks that we are lucky to have so many of, alongside plenty of time enjoying free play and other activities in my fully enclosed garden.

There will also be lots of messy play, both indoors and outdoors, as it meets so many of the outcomes for Curriculum for Excellence, but most importantly messy play is lots of fun! I do encourage parents to leave an old set of clothes for their child to change into for messy play activities. We will also be forging strong links in the local community by taking part in groups like Bookbug at the library, toddler groups and play at the local Softplay.

Myself and my children look forward to welcoming your little ones to Busy Little Learners so that we can enjoy lots of adventures together.
