About Me
Hello, I'm Gillian and welcome to Fernbrae Childminding Service. I am delighted you have chosen to look at my profile and may be considering me for your childcare needs! I have always loved caring for children and I am by nature a very gentle,nurturing,kind,friendly and patient person. It would be my honour to look after your precious little one and I understand the huge responsibility of this role. I always strive to ensure the children I look after are safe, happy and thriving. I provide responsive care and high quality experiences for the little ones I look after in a loving, safe and homely environment. I do this by offering children lots of praise and positive reinforcement which in turn encourages them to feel confident and secure as they learn new independence skills. I offer innovative and exciting experiences such as arts and crafts,baking,local trips,outdoor play, walks around the local area and trips to local parks, science, sensory play,storytime,den building,singing and drama which are all adapted to be suitable for the age and stage your child is at. I also offer free settling in sessions. Communication is highly important when caring for babies and young children and I enjoy building trusting and respectful relationships with the little ones in my care and their parents/carers. I always carefully listen to and follow the individual care requirements parents/carers have for their children and give them lots of feedback at the end of each day.
My Experience
I am highly experienced having cared for newborns up to primary school aged children for the past 20 years in variety of early years settings both in Scotland and abroad. I am also mum to three of my own. Where childcare guidance is required I have worked with young mums and their babies in the past offering guidance on a range of matters from colic to toilet learning. I have experience in working with children who have complex additional support needs such as Autism and Downs Syndrome. I am also able to communicate through makaton. I have completed recent training on child protection and Bookbug.

We have been taking our daughter to Gillian’s house for over a year now when we need childcare and she absolutely adores Gillian. She comes home telling me about a variety of activities she has done over the course of the day from outdoor walks to painting and arts and crafts. Gillian really keeps her busy and entertained. If she hasn’t been for a week she asks when she can go back! I would highly recommend Gillian!
