My name is Niki, I live in Werrington, Peterborough. I've been married since July 2005, I have 2 children, my son was born in March 13 and my daughter was born in November 15.
I have been around children all my life.
I am the second of four children, I helped out with my younger siblings all the time, I also helped care for children in my neighbourhood and started babysitting aged 11. I still care for children of friends and family to this day.
My son was born prematurely, so I have gained a unique insight into caring for a child with extra needs. Thankfully he is fit and well now but I have been permanently changed, for the better, by the experience. I believe I am much calmer, especially in stressful situations, due to caring for my son, this seems to have crossed over to my children as they are both very relaxed.
We go to groups every morning and outside in the afternoons. I go on regular walks along the river and through the woods at cuckoos hollow. There's a wide range of wildlife right on our doorstep, providing valuable and fascinating activities for children. I also have several parks, numerous playgroups and the library within walking distance.
I have a lovely enclosed garden, can offer a quiet room and will provide a wide range of activities from reading to messy play.
My Experience
I have no professional experience before embarking on my childminding career but I have a wealth of hands on experience caring for children in my neighbourhood, children of friends and family and for my two children.
My son was discharged from hospital on oxygen, before he came home I spent time learning about his condition and how to properly administer the oxygen and maintain the equipment. I weaned him from the oxygen myself, using guidelines provided by specialists at the hospital.
My son also suffers from delayed motor skills, he is under a physiotherapist, he started walking aged 3.
I genuinely feel the challenges I have faced with my son makes me better equipped to care for children, not much scares me anymore!
I have learned how to keep children healthy and stimulated, regardless of any problems they may suffer from, my son could talk, count to ten and identify colours and shapes before he could walk.
I genuinely love spending time with children, childminding is the perfect career for me.
My Qualifications
I have completed a childminding course through Barnados, completed a food safety and paediatric first aid course. I have also studied safeguarding and the EYFS. I intend to carry on studying to constantly improve my knowledge and skills.

We moved my son from a nursery to Niki a year ago and it was the best decision we have ever made. He has come on leaps and bounds and the individual support and nurturing environment Niki provides has done wonders for his development. Honestly couldn’t recommend any higher!

Niki was our son's first childminder and I can't praise her enough! She regularly messaged me throughout the day to say how Archie was doing and also sent me pictures of what he was up to. She provided excellent meals and activities and took Archie out on plenty of nature walks which he loves. His confidence has grown and he loves talking to and meeting new people, which I think has been developed from being with Niki. If you want to feel totally at ease with who your child is being looked after, I'd suggest you go with Niki.

I would like to say a very big thank you to Nikki for making my son's first time with a childminder a very positive and happy one, He settled in very quickly, was happy to go to Nikki's everyday, Nikki updated me each day with how he was, what he had for lunch, etc, i was made aware of all policies and procedures and felt very confident with Nikkis care. I would 100% recommend Nikki as a childminder to anyone else looking, I will be using Nikki in the future for school holidays.
