About Me
I am a qualified primary school teacher with 6 years classroom experience and 1 year of tutoring experience. If you have a specific area you would like your child to receive support with or a particular academic goal in mind for them, I can deliver activities and exercises that can support them. I tend to recommend that KS1 children attend sessions in person but that most KS2 children are adept enough with ICT to attend either online or in person.
I will need to meet the child initially to carry out a baseline assessment and better understand their learning style and interests. I will then create lessons to help them progress from their starting point. With your permission, it would also be useful to liaise with their teachers and check that our targets and approaches are aligned, as consistency tends to yield the best results.
My Experience
I studied at UWE and Bath Spa (twice) and earned in that time a BA (HONS) in Primary Education Studies, my Early Years Professional Status, which is a post graduate level qualification, as well as returning to university to complete my PGCE and qualify as a primary school teacher.
In amongst my periods of study, I also had a 6 year career in the Royal Navy and so value hard work, organisation and calm under pressure.
I trained in primary schools for a year and was then taken on full time once I qualified. I am currently in my 4th year of teaching.
My current class is mixed year 3/4 and I have also had year 2 and year 4 classes.
My Qualifications
BA (HONS) Education Studies from UWE - Primary based education focussing on delivering the National Curriculum, Learning Theories, Cross Curricular Teaching methods. The degree also involved a large amount of teaching time in schools i.e planning, teaching, marking etc.
Early Years Professional Status from Bath Spa University - An EYP's job is to work with other early years professionals to ensure that standards of best practice are being met. This involves observing and coaching staff, identifying their training needs, implementing and teaching staff about government guidelines. This means I have a thorough knowledge of child development and the early years curriculum.
Update: I have 6 years military service in the Royal Navy. I reached the rank of Leading Hand (Cpl equivalent) but also passed the officer selection course (AIB).
I left the RN, retrained and put my education experience to good use by qualifying as a Primary School teacher. The training took a year to complete and I was then taken on by one of my training schools. I taught for 5 additional years and now run a tutoring business full time.
