Our lovely son is 10 years old; he is very active, adventurous and has lots of energy! He enjoys reading, swimming, learning and exploring life. He lives at home with us and his little sister. Our son sustained a brain injury at birth and as a result he has cerebral palsy, developmental delay and learning difficulties. He has been making huge developments in his communication and rehab. He understands the world around him and what is being said to him. He uses a communication device, signs, sounds and body language to communicate. Our son can walk aided with a walker, bum shuffle and pull himself up to a standing position; he is a very determined and quick little boy!
We need a candidate who is ready to assist with all aspects of his rehab programmes, delivering the therapists prescriptions and care plans. Supporting our son to learn and ensuring he his fully integrated into family life, he loves his sister and enabling them to play together is paramount. This is a practical, hands on role that involves supporting our son in all aspects of his day. You will be required at times to perform 'hands off' tasks related to our son's care such as preparing items, monitoring equipment and ensuring cleaning tasks are completed. Our son can show frustration in certain situations, so previous experience in this area would be beneficial. This is a very rewarding role within a secure and loving family unit.
Suitable for SEN/ Complex care workers/ TA's/teachers and those with a grounding in child psychology. Experience with communication devices would be beneficial but can be learnt on the job.
