About Me

Hi, i'm Kerry, I'm 36 and I have a lovely teenaged daughter of my own ( wow, how the time flies!!) I have completed my SVQ level 3 in childhood studies and plan to keep going on until I gain my Degree (fingers crossed!). I have my current PVG check, etc up to date, and am going to complete my First Aid in a few weeks. I have spent a lot of time with children over the years and love every minute! I look forward to hearing from you, and can assure I provide every child with a safe, but fun environment.
I am extremely bubbly, love children and just enjoy life. I truly do not think you can get any better experience than having spent you're life bringing up a child...through illness and hard times, staying up all night with them, seeing them through school and absolutely everything in between. I don't think anything can quite prepare you for anticipating their basic and developmental needs quite like more than 16 years of doing just that....24/7.
I am now studying for my honours degree in childcare when I have a moment, and who knows...I may end up with my masters soon if I keep going :).
Just adding that I've been away from the site for quite a bit, because of COVID obviously, but also personal reasons. Part of this means that I now live in the stunning wee village of Lochmaben ( as seen in my profile picture!). So, will obviously be looking to take on work closer to home ?. But from what I've seen of Lochmaben/Lockerbie and so on - they certainly don't appear to lack kiddie's, so I'm hopeful!

My Experience

My experience with children is almost limitless as I have spent exactly half of my life successfully bringing up a bright, lovely daughter. As well as this I have spent more hours than I can count nannying/babysitting for others. Before going to college, I worked for years looking after adults with learning disabilities, but always wanted to work with children.
I have also just spent the last year working in a Primary 1/2 class, which included children with ADHD, autism and severe learning difficulties, which was an amazing experience. Also since joining the site I have successfully worked with some lovely families and was - until now -classifying my self as a babysitter (and am still willing to work as such) but have realised I would like more permanent work....to work more closely with a nice family on a more regular basis whilst I am currently completing my degree open learning (although I intend to complete the final part at university) hence mainly seeing myself as a nanny. I have been asked many times by parents why I do not just become a registered childminder and the answer is simple, I used to do this until circumstances made me relocate to a smaller house and I just don't have the room children need. The main difference between being a childminder and a nanny etc. is that you are registered to look after children in your own home as a childminder ( and get paid more for it :-)) and as a nanny you go to the child's own home. I actually enjoy nannying so much better....every day's different....I just love all the new experiences!

My Qualifications

Highers; psychology, English, maths, IT, childhood higher (extra part of NC). SVQ level 3 which includes things such as Child Development, Creative and Aesthetic Experiences, Services for Children and Young People (covering SSSC, GIRFEC, Children Scotland Act 2014, and many more - in depth) Child Development Theory, Play in Early Education and Childcare/Play in Practice (including placement)Supporting Children's Rights and Entitlements, Developing an Understanding of working with children/+in the Workplace Experience (including placement), and many more (I wont keep going on or you'll get bored!). I will also have my Diploma in Nanny and childcare almost completed. This is as well as open uni in childcare.

My Availability

I am extremely flexible during the whole of the holidays, pretty much at your disposal! I will be doing the rest of my studying at home in my own time...I am currently completing my Nanny and childcare Diploma right now but it leaves me plenty of time . Before and after school pick ups no problem. All day for pre school age the same, as well as children off sick from school. I have limitless energy so.....bring it on, the sky is the limit!
Obviously I have my daughter, but my circumstances mean this will not hinder my working hours and will still be open to over-nighters as and when required.

My Fees

  • Babysitting from £12.00 per hour
  • Nannying from £13.00 per hour (gross)

I would be up for negotiation but obviously unsocial hours and sleepovers would need to be discussed, as is the norm! We would have to work it out between us!
