About Me

Hello, my name is Kerrie Thornhill-Smith, I am married and I am Mum of 5 children. We have a Bichon Frise (dog) Lily, fantastic with children & Sox (cat) who spends most of the time outside.
I qualified as a Childminder in 2014 but I found myself working within a primary school in 2015 which I had volunteered in since 2009 as an SEN Teaching Assistant, which I absolutely loved.
I have a lot of experience working with children and young people over the years and I have also worked within the NHS for about 15 years, mainly administrator roles, but I also completed a lot of training relating to nursing, counselling and smoking cessation aids within the Smoking Cessation Service and Health Promotion.
My home is now my workplace which I intend to offer your child a safe, warm, stimulating, exciting and caring environment in which they can play, learn, develop and be happy.
The whole of my downstairs has been approved by Ofsted. I have a through living room, which the back room is our main playroom.
My dining room is where the children will be eating and baking.
I have a downstairs toilet and wash basin.
My garden is huge, I have various areas for the children to learn and play safely in, comprising of mud kitchen, music area, outdoor sandpit, playhouse, in-ground trampoline, climbing frames, swings, slides, basketball, sensory areas, outdoor games and toys, and a summerhouse which we also have play, craft, reading and exploring areas. I have an outdoor wash basin with running hot and cold water.
I am also registered to offer funded places from 9 months old.
My Experience
I have worked and volunteered within primary schools for a number of years, working as an SEN Teaching Assistant until 2016. I have 5 children of my own children (3 boys & 2 girls)
My Qualifications
I have a BA (Hons) Degree in Young Children's Learning Development, Level 6 full & relevant through QAA Benchmark standards. I am Ofsted Registered, I completed the childminding course in 2014, but I continued to work as an SEN Teaching Assistant until 2016. I have previous school experience working within a primary school and I have 5 children of my own. I am Paediatric Level 3 First Aid Trained, Epipen Trained and I have many years experience with Asthma. I have taken courses in SEND Level 3 and Autistic Awareness, I have had training in basic Makaton skills. I also have advanced Safeguarding training.
