My Summary
About Me
Married to my husband and I have 2 sons. My youngest is 4 and my eldest is 6.
Currently a full time student midwife :).
The interest in working within this type of environment stems from my personal life; my younger brother has a diagnosis of Global Delay along with Autism and I have often supported both him and other family friends with similar conditions, i.e. ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
My Experience
My previous/current role is an adult support worker. An important part of my role is to work as part of a team providing quality support across the service. I support our clients with daily living skills, personal care, inances, actvites both indoors and outdoors, and in the community. I also use the key facilitaton skills at all tmes when supportng clientst warmth, touch, responsive, refecton, positoning, observaton, listening, eye contact, communicaton and being creatve. I also provide a person centred approach across their support to understand that they have a choice and control over their own lives, communicate their choice and control their lives without the need to resort to behaviour that could be described as challenging, improve and sustain their emotonal wellbeing, physical and mental health. While working in a team I have a responsibility to be honest, organised, well informed, practcal and reliable. I follow policies and procedures at all tmes, as well as making decisions, being safety aware and keeping up to date with the changes within support guidelines and risk assessments.
From September 2012 through to May 2014 I was able to offer my skills & gain more experience through childcare work placements. I was providing an appropriate environment where children can learn and play by following the policies and procedures through practice. I was also involved in the planning of appropriate activities for the children's age and development stages when working within a small group and one to one. I also reviewed activities appropriate to individual needs that met physical, emotional, social and intellectual development. I enjoyed supervising the children within the settings along with working as part of a team to ensure the children got the best out of the environment. Working with parents enabled me to ensure relevant information was shared on a daily basis. The main skills I developed throughout my time at all the settings were being inclusive towards all children, following day to day routines effectively and encouraging the children who were unsure or needed extra help. I also had the opportunity to provide personal care within the baby rooms and enjoyed changing nappies, providing healthy meals, following a home routine and implementing the routine at nursery. I encouraged the children to find boundaries and did this through various activities that enabled them to reach their full potential within the development milestones. Since leaving college I have had many roles within this sector, from an ABA private teacher, registered behaviour technician, nursery worker, pre-school assistant, teaching assistant.
