My Summary
About Me
I am a happy, easy going person, passionate that children should get the best start in life tailored to their personal needs. I have 2 boys now 21 and 23 that are independent (one being a snowboard instructor and looking to being away for snow! and the other finishing a boat building course ready to explore the world!) I am therefore able to consider hours that before I would of spent being a mum! I have lots of energy and am outdoorsy and look forward to helping a family with child care.
I enjoy the water, having been the swimming instructor at my special school for 3 years and having many 'wow' moments as the children gained rapidly in confidence..I also enjoy walking, cycling , climbing and surf, I am a keen gardener and enjoy the thrill of a new shoot or leaf! Indoors I like to read, bake and cook simple meals and not adverse to decorating when needed.
I like dogs and animals in general,so happy to have 4 legged friends about.
My Experience
Having gained a BTEC diploma in childcare I supported 2 little boys on the autistic spectrum in a nursery setting that I adored and they inspired me to find out and attend courses and lectures on ASD,Portage courses,(which help developement by breaking down tasks into small steps) as well as other special needs childcare.
Whilst building my knowledge in special needs I worked 1-1 with a 9 year old boy with emotional needs until he moved onto high school.
I became a foster carer in 2002 and provided respite for families and had a temporary placement for a 5 year old whilst his permanent care was considered.
I was also a supported lodging provider for 16+ and care leavers, which I will admit was quite challenging at times, however made me appreciate the hurdles some young people have in their lives.
I am currently working in a special needs school, having been for 10 years,3 of which I was the swimming instructor, responsible for the safety of all water users.
I have brought my 2 wonderful boys up as a single parent and am very proud of them, and now they are independent I am able to extend hours and would like to help a family out of a school environment as you may see from my experience my love is to be out and about allowing children to see and experience through play and everyday things and visits to interesting places.
If you feel I may be suitable for your family please feel free to get in touch..
