About Me
We are a husband and wife team, both registered Childminders, living on Langford Village, Bicester.
I (Katey) have been a registered childminder for 18 years. I have 5 children of my own, ages 15, 19 and three grown up, 24, 29, 32 years. I initially trained as a nurse. I got remarried and had a good think about my own work/life balance. I love children and decided to change career to become a childcare provider, working from home.
My husband joined me full time from April 2012. Previously he was one of our registered Childcare Assistants helping out on his days off and holidays, but from April 2012 he joined me fulltime and upgraded to registered childminder.
We have a slightly larger practise than most childminders as we have Childcare Assistants who are OFSTED registered, DBS checked and First Aid Trained. They have gone through the same rigorous checks by OFSTED as we did to be registered to care for children. Our adult to child ratio, at the moment, is 1:2.
We care for children from birth onwards but, I (Katey) am also an EYE (Early Years Education) and TYE (Two year olds...) Specialist Childminder. So, we are registered to be able to offer parents, 15 hours of funded care and education for qualifying babies & Toddlers from 9 months old, alongside their daily childcare requirements, including the extended 30 hours for working families.
My Experience
We have a large warm, welcoming, friendly family home with secure fully enclosed gardens. We offer a safe, secure, structured, child led environment, with lots and lots of toys and activities to keep even the busiest of children occupied all day. We have lovely local parks and a pond which has resident swans and many ducks for the children to visit & feed.
We have a large 7 seater vehicle with full entertainment system & rear screen DVD for the children to watch, whilst they travel with us on outings. We have many different car seats for all ages, complete with Isofix security seating.
We have planned outings and activities every week. The activity planners, daily routines & activities are posted on our kitchen wall for everyone to view. These are tailored to meet the individual needs of each child and are therefore not rigid plans as each child chooses what they would like to do each day, following their interest, stage of learning and development.
My Qualifications
I initially trained as a nurse. I am a qualified practice Manager. I am OFSTED registered including overnight care, DBS checked, First Aid Trained, holding many childcare qualification including, Cache level 3 Diploma in Childcare, the Foundation Degree in Early Years (Level 5) & the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood (Level 6).
I am a member of the Trio childminding network and a Trio GEM (mentor for newly registered Childminders).
I am registered with Oxford County Council to provide EYE (Early Years Education) and TYE (Two Year olds..). I am an EYE/TYE Specialist Childminder and offer parents, 15 hours of funded care and education for qualifying Babies and Toddlers from 9 months old, alongside their childcare requirements, including 30 hours extended for working parents.
We are registered with Environmental Health as a Food business with Oxford/Cherwell County Council.
We are fully insured, Public Liability, Employer Liability, House & Buildings insurance as Business, Car insurance as a business, specifically for carrying the children.
My Availability
We currently provide full (4 days) and 3 days (minimum place) vacancies for 0-3 years.
School Holidays & Overnight care
Our normal hours of business are 8:30am - 5:30pm Monday to Thursday.

Our little person joined the Safehands family when he was just 3 months old, and now at 14 months old, I couldn't imagine doing it without Katey and the rest of the Safehands team. Our little person lights up every morning when we pull into the Safehands driveway, and that gives me such a sense of relief, because I know he is happy being there, and that means he is being cared for and loved.

Harry (my son) attended Safehands for two years. Being our first child we were very nervous about what childcare to go for and found selecting a chilminder quite daunting. Katey made us feel very welcome and took time to explain all involved getting to know Harry in the process. This set the scene to what has been a great time for Harry. Not only has he enjoyed it at Safehands his development has much to do with the practices which are undertaken there. His speech, manners and behaviour has much to do with the way that Katey and her assistants care for the children and we would not hesitate to reccomend Katey for anyone who is looking for childcare in Bicester. On top of providing amazing care for Harry, Safehands always conducted themselves in a professional way and Katey is a credit to her profession. Harry will miss Katey and Safehands a great deal and if we weren't relocating we would definately not be leaving.
