My Summary
About Me
I am Ofsted registered childminder with 25 years of experience of working with children. I live in Paddock Wood with my husband and 14 year old daughter.
I have spent most of my working life within the childcare sector including Schools, Nurseries and as a Private Nanny. The past 5 years have been as a registered childminder. I’m between working with children I have also spent 10 years working for Kent Police as a civilian Supervisor employee.
I provide a wide range of fun and engaging educational activities, enhancing children physical, social and intellectual development. We have lots of imaginative play, which we use in every aspect of learning. We love to play in the garden, take walks in the local area and visit local farms and Parks. We have time outside every day and take advantage of all weathers! We also focus on quieter table top activities like puzzles, mark making and sensory play to help with finer hand eye coordination and to help with concentration and becoming independent thinkers. I feel that giving children options like these enhances their sense of independence and develops their confidence.
We spend a lot of our time singing and dancing! It’s a big part of how we communicate as a group. We also use number, shape and colour language within our every day discussions, with this being a norm within every activity we are engaged in.
I am able to be flexible with work patterns and can be flexible with opening times.
My Experience
I have 25 years of experience working within the childcare sector. For 9 of those years I worked as Private Nanny with children aged between birth to 11 years. A further 6 years was spent working within the nursery setting, where I had the opportunity to run both the Baby and Pre-school rooms. Another year was also spent working within the school environment, where I worked as a TA. Every age group I have worked with has been a wonderful experience and taught me many skills which can be adapted tot he home setting.
As A Nanny I worked with children of various ages. The youngest child in my care was 2 hours old, having been bought home straight after her birth. This was a magical experience, as was her care during the subsequent 4 years. Whilst studying for a degree I spent many years working with school aged children, which was very rewarding. I loved the banter and comical conversations we had, which also helped to achieve wonderful results when helping them with their home work assignments.
I have also worked within the nursery environment, where I specialised in working with the pre-school children aged 3-5 years. I used the national curriculum Early Learning Goals, to help develop all skills that the children required to grow into well rounded confident children. This same curriculum, now re-named and restructured as Development Matters, is still used and is a requirement of Ofsted when working as a childminder. I use this as a template to set activities and further the child's needs and next steps within their development.
I spent my first year qualified as a Nursery Nurse in a school reception class as a TA. The team I worked with were amazing and taught me a great deal in how to use my skills to work with and enhance a child's education.
All of these experiences have shaped the type of childminder I have become and I aim to provide a high quality setting to promote the wellbeing and development of all the children I care for.
