My Summary
About Me
Hello. I'm Alia, a twenty-three-year-old Photography student. I'm originally from Wales, Swansea to be precise, however moved to London in 2017 for University. I've been very fortunate to have been brought up in a loving and close household. Family is something I've always valued, I believe children thrive beyond their boundaries with positive encouragement and support. Whilst in college I studied Children's Care Learning and Development for three years before changing courses into the arts, passing all of my courses in with either A / B's (Distinction's). I'm currently a nanny in Kingston Upon Thames, working with a lovely family B17, G16 and G14. However, I've decided to move, as of this i'm looking for another great family to work alongside of.
______________
The all-important question you want to know, why I love working with children
Since moving away, I've learned the importance of family and communication which is one of the main reasons I want to become a nanny. Becoming a nanny is such a meaningful job, I want to be able to help a family and offer support to reduce the stress of everyday routine, while working together to enrich their children’s life.
Looking after children, watching them grow and develop their own personalities is something I’ve always been interested in. It’s fascinating that I’m able to help mould a child’s personality and provide them with tools to overcome barriers they may come across. I believe children have a lot to teach us, as they perceive their surroundings so diverse to adults. Their mind curious and their heart pure. Getting to know the children on an informal basis will allow me to understand their needs and the way they think in a different light. I relish that not only will I be helping them, but they will be imparting on a new journey of discovery.
______________
Working together
When working with a family there needs to be a good balance between fun and responsibility. You need to be entertaining and interesting to build a bond between yourself and the child. However, the parent needs a reliable and trustworthy nanny, knowing that they are leaving their children in safe hands.
I hold a full clean UK driving licence, so I am capable of driving the children around for outings or anything activity that needs to be done. Due to already working as a nanny I have recently (December 2018) got my CRB/ DBS and first aid training renewed. I am more than happy to do additional training or short courses if needed.
Being a vegetarian myself, I tend to cook a lot of my meals from scratch, which gives me an insight into the ingredients which I am putting into my body. Cooking is a great way for children to understand the world and how different food can make us feel. Cooking meat is not a problem for me, I'm happy to adjust meals to any dietary needs you or your child might have.
A child should be able to explore new and interesting topics in a safe environment. Therefore, I would provide opportunities for them to discover what they might be interested in and pursue it without any judgment or fear. Allowing a child to have this freedom will increase the child's vocabulary and develop their understanding of the world.
I’ve always enjoyed being outdoors, I find something as simple as a long walk can clear your head and give you the energy to do other activities. Giving children the openness to be imaginative is something that I feel strongly about. I would take the children somewhere safe where they have the freedom to be active and imaginative, where I would play along in the child’s game encouraging their curiosity. An example of a fun planned activity outdoors would be, a treasure hunt which they have to read and deconstruct the question to figure out the next place.
As I'm into the arts, I would do a great deal of crafts with them. Whether it be a full freedom to do anything they wanted or doing fun cognitive DIY activities which they can learn from. Showing the parents new activities the child has learned, such as a dance routine is a fun way of strengthening the bond between the family and allows the parents to be part of the activities they do.
My Experience
Nanny / Housekeeper
Koru Kids, Kingston Upon Thames
Nov 2018 - Present
I maintain a complete schedule for all of the children to ensure the family is all home for dinner at a reasonable time. Assist the children with their homework, school projects, reading assignments, and studying after school. Also, observe children during studying, extracurricular activities, playing, and when getting ready for bed. At dinner time I prepare nutritious meals for the entire family, ensuring they have a balanced diet.
During play time I create age-appropriate activities for the children that included creating dance routines, art projects, visiting local museums, and spending the afternoon at the park. I also, perform light housekeeping and errands such as washing dishes, re-organising cupboards or bedrooms, laundry and ironing.
Sales Assistant (Part-time)
Sports Direct - Swansea
May 2015 to August 2017
Sports Direct was a customer orientated job, throughout my time there I had experience in numerous departments whilst primarily working around customers needs and any issues they had. As the job requires working as a team and being able to use your initiative do several jobs at once at a high quality level, on many occasions I was left in charge of small areas of the shop floor and was able
to lead a team successfully. I'm experienced in many areas of the job such as doing delivery in the mornings, running tills on my own, this included minor issues they had and any simple returns. Also, being in charge of shutting down/ tidying up the shop floor, helping out in other departments such as on shoes and in the stock rooms. I also re-organised or moved departments efficiently and within my timeline whilst helping on tills but also making sure the customers were my main priority.
