About Me
We are a family of 3 living in West Hampstead.
Our son is an engaging 12-year-old boy who loves swimming and baths, sensory activities including Play Doh, trampolining, sand, and messy play – and is very motivated by food! He loves to play ‘rough and tumble’ and enjoys looking at photos and videos of himself, friends, and family members. He enjoys nice smells, going on holidays, massages, music, and dancing. He thrives on routine and can become bored easily. He has a diagnosis of autism, ADHD, with possible OCD. He can become anxious and fixated on specific topics, upcoming events/schedules. If he is overwhelmed, he may display behaviours that may challenge, including self-harming behaviour such as biting or hitting himself and breaking objects. This behaviour is not directed at others, but he may unintentionally lash out. He is verbal; however, his receptive language is good, however his expressive language is delayed. He struggles with self-care tasks and needs prompts and support, especially with personal care.
My Requirements
Overview of role: At 7.30am the SEN Manny / Nanny will wake him up, support him to have a shower, get dressed and have breakfast. He is picked up to be taken to school at 8.30am. There are some light household tasks related to our son to complete, to ensure the house is clean and tidy. He is brought back from school around 3.30pm. He may have an after-school activity including basketball, swimming or dance psychotherapy. 3 times a week he has an ABA-based therapy session. During a therapy session, the SEN Manny / Nanny will maintain his laundry/ironing, cook his dinner, check his school bag is ready for the next day and make sure all areas he uses in the home are clean and tidy. During school holidays, there is more time to plan interesting activities he will enjoy. £18.00 to £20.00 gross per hour depending on experience. The higher rate is applicable for candidates with 3+ years’ sole charge/private family experience.
Who this job would suit: This role will suit someone who is calm, confident, organised, and is naturally, a neat and tidy person. You’ll be patient, kind and have a genuine desire to help our son reach his potential. You will have sole charge experience supporting a child with SEN and be confident to take our son out to activities in the community on your own. You’ll need to be active and quick on your feet; he is very mobile and has no awareness of danger. Our son responds very well to male support staff, but the role is open to either a male or female. You’ll be emotionally resilient, and professional in your work.
What’s great about this job: Training will be offered from professional ABA therapists, offering many transferable skills. A room is available to use to study/work between split shifts if required. This is a great opportunity to gain further experience and work with a lovely young man.
