About Me

Hi my name is Shantelle. I am 25 years old and I live in sarisbury green with my 5 year old daughter Calleigh, my partner Chris and our lovely pets, Ruby who is our 10 year old border collie and Orchid who is our fluffy white bunny rabbit. And hopefully a new addition one day soon (we have been trying for our second child for 2 and a half years now). My partner travels a lot so I'm often at home alone and have a huge passion for children so I thought this was a great way for me to fill my days while earning myself a bit of extra money. I have unofficially fostered children before (see below) and would love to do that full time but as me and my partner do not have a spare bedroom we are unable to do so as a profession.

My Experience

I have 2 younger brothers, 3 nephews, a child of my own and many friends and neighbours with children as well as some unofficial fostering so needless to say I have much experience with babies and children of all ages accumulated over 10+ years.

My Qualifications

I have completed my First Aid course every 3 years since I left school. I studied childcare at college level, along with health and social care level 3. While I studied these courses I never actually managed to complete the course and gain my qualifications as I fell pregnant with my daughter. Which is why I have returned to my studies now that my daughter has started school. Dont let that undermine my knowledge and abilities with children. I have helped struggling friends and neighbours bring up their children, one of whom was a very difficult child who's mum couldn't cope so me and my partner took him in and looked after him for several months. When we got him he was 3 years old, could barely talk, still in nappies during the day and night, was wholly dependant on a blanket and had an awful temper that made him lash out violently towards people and smash up the house. When we returned him to his mother he was a calm, quiet and polite boy who had learned to speak (his favourite word was delicious), was dry both day and night, had learned not to depend on his blanket, and stopped all forms of violence. His mother and even his school praised us profusely and explained that he was like a different child, one who was now a joy to be around. I also knew a young girl who had 2 young children, a new born boy and a girl who is 10 days younger than my daughter who were both 14 months at the time. This girl fell into a bad life of drug abuse and partying and was no longer able to look after her children so social services were happy to place both children in my care while they helped the mum with her issues. After looking after the children for about a year the authorities decided the mum was not fit to have the children back and placed them both up for adoption. It broke my heart having to let them go but I knew they would be going somewhere safe. Somewhere that could offer them a real chance at life, and that brought me comfort. The paternal grandmother was so grateful and appreciative of everything I had done for her grandchildren that she actually bought me a car to thank me! We are still great friends to this day! I wanted to explain all of this to you to show that qualifications are not everything, sometimes life and experience are far more important so please don't judge me or refuse me on the basis that I don't have any qualifications directly related to children. Meet with me and make your own mind up :)

My Availability

I am a mummy myself which means I have to be available to do the school runs both morning and afternoon. I am looking to earn myself a little bit of extra money while studying at Open University so I am free during school hours every day and can be available during the afternoon school run if you don't mind your kiddies coming along to pick my daughter up from school with me and can be available after school, again as long as you dont mind my beautiful little one being around.
