My Summary
About Me
My name is Elinor, I am from Australia but I am living and working in the UK as an au pair.
I have dual citizenship (Australia and UK) and have a british passport, allowing me to have no time limit on my stay in the UK.
I worked in the childcare industry in Australia for 3 years and did babysitting on the side for some of the children I used to teach.
I know how to play a ukulele and guitar and used to play violin!
I am a vegan which means I don’t eat any animal products at all... however, more than happy to cook meat and animal products for your child/ children
My Experience
In 2016, at 17 years old, I graduated from high school and achieved my leaver’s certificate. But also during my graduation year, I completed my Cert III of Early Childhood Education and Care (which I began in 2015). Throughout my study I learned how to care for children aged 0-6 and developed an understanding of how each different child will want and need different things. Not one child is the same. During this study, I also acquired my First Aid and CPR certificate and can provide you with a copy of it if required.
Towards the end of 2016, I was offered a full time job in the 6 week-15 months old room for 2017 at the child care centre in which I did the practice section of my study. I spent this whole year working with babies from about 4 months old to 15 months old. I built strong relationships with the children and their families and they were always so happy to be in my care!
In March 2017, I began studying a diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (approx equivalent to level 3 NVQ)! This gave me more knowledge of what it’s like to lead a child care centre and went more in depth of the programming side of the child care industry in Australia! I also re did my First Aid and CPR course in this time, to refresh my knowledge.
In November 2017, I was offered a lead educator position for 2018 in the toddler room (15 mths - 2 years)! This meant that I was able to still teach the children that I had with me in the nursery room because they were all going to move up into this next room. The families were so excited and happy for me to be offered such a role! As a lead educator, I was responsible to keep up to date information for the parents and to regularly update the children’s learning journals.
Because of my experience in child care, I won’t just be ‘babysitting’ or ‘child minding’. I am able to educate your children as well as support their wants and needs.
In February 2018, I decided that I wanted to work overseas as a nanny. In March 2018 I completed my diploma and decided that I definitely want to work in an overseas country! I traveled to the UK in March and then to France in April and fell in love with this part of the world. It is much different to back home but I truly felt as though I could live there forever! After my trip here, I just knew I had to come back. I found my first family in June 2018, moved in December 2018, and am loving my time here.
My Qualifications
My first qualification was Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, equivalent to NVQ 2. I learned how to care for children of all ages (mainly 6 weeks - 6 years) and spent a lot of my practice time in the nursery with the babies.
I also hold a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, equivalent to NVQ 3. This qualification gave me more knowledge on what it's like to run a childcare centre and the programming and childhood development.
Whilst being in the UK I have also done a Level 1 Child Psychology course which has been really interesting. I have gained lots of knowledge on child behavioral issues, why they act certain ways etc.
