My Summary
About Me
Hi, my name is Dorota, I am 32 years old and I come from a town in the Polish mountains called Bielsko-Biala. I grew up surrounded by forests and rivers and many of my peers, with whom I loved to play with from morning to evening. I spent my childhood in the midst of nature and the love of learning about it has remained with me to this day. I know that not only I, but all children are curious and that the natural world fascinates and entertains them.
I love working with children because it always amazes me how children can see things that adults no longer see and this creativity and energy always give me a dose of positive thinking. I like children's involvement, but I also like the challenges that children put in front of me and having to think of the best way to keep them interested. I believe that it’s the future generations of children that will move the world forward and keep us changing, so bonding with children and participating in their early age development is a very important influence on adult life and I hope I can have a positive impact on this.
I would like to share my passions with them, Literature - by reading them books, Nature - by taking them for walks and showing various plants and animals, Art - by showing them works of art and talking about them, as well as through a variety of artistic activities - drawing, painting, sculpting, braiding etc., Cooking - by jointly preparing afternoon tea.
My Experience
I've been a nanny and babysitter for 4 years in London by now. I've been looking after children aged 2 months to 5 years old.
Experience in detail:
- I started with being an after school nanny for two girls aged 3 in February 2019. That role involved picking them up from nurseries, preparing a snack together at one girl’s house, playing in the park or inside (role play, games, puzzles, crafts etc.).
- Then I was involved in school drops off for a girl aged 4.
- Then I become a support for the family of four (kids aged 6 months and nearly 3 years) – it was a part time role of 25 hours/week which became a full time employment with the start of the pandemic (both parents working form home). My main role was to look after little boy, that involved:
- bottle feeding (sterilising included),
- playing (tummy time, singing, signing, taking him to playgrounds and baby activities in children centres and then introducing more and more elaborate games matching his stage of development – he became really good at hide-and-seek that his sister loved and absolutely adorable trying to jump on the bed when singing “Sleeping rabbits”),
- putting him for naps and night sleep,
- sometimes bath,
- introducing solid foods (also preparing mushes and meals),
- taking him for walks in a pram and then walking with him wherever he wanted to go (opening and closing gate in front of every house on the street was a must!),
- talking through his first tantrums,
- somehow controlling his wriggle during a nappy change,
- first poop jokes and introducing him to an idea of a potty,
- tiding up play areas, kitchen, laundry or any kind of light housework.
- Then I was looking after another little boy, very cute 9 month old. That was great 3 months of fun!
- Then one after another two lovely little girls were learning how to sit, eat solids and walk under my care. They were under 6 months when I started.
- I have been involved in helping with my friend's 2 month old daughter.
- Since February 2022 I am a nanny for two great kids aged 3 (girl) and 5 (boy). I am picking them up from local nursery and school and spending after school time with them - in the park when weather allows and at home if it's raining. We play games together, prepare food and do bed time routine.
- In the meantime I was babysitting for countless families including looking after a baby that was only a few weeks old.
Back in Poland I often helped my dad at work, he is a puppeteer and entertainer for children at various events. I was painting faces, teaching children how to make balloon animals and organizing games. I worked at the Center for Contemporary Art "Kronika" in Bytom, Poland for one year, showing school trips around the exhibitions and organizing workshops. I also spent a year as a volunteer for an association which helps young children, aged 7-12, at risk of social exclusion. This involved organizing arts and crafts with them, helping with their homework and preparing their meals. My interest in art and experience in working with children made me want to combine these two areas in my professional life.
