My Requirements

We have a 1 year old (Anna Môn) and 3 year old (Erin Haf). Erin will start doing some mornings at Ysgol Gymraeg y Ffin, which is a 5 minute walk away from our house, in September and she also attends their Cylch some afternoons.

We’re looking for someone who can balance spending time at home with the girls with taking them out to do fun things. After the last year they’re both used to pottering around in the house, and we love seeing them occasionally during the day when we have a break from work, but we also need a bit of a break and they love to get out and about.

Anna likes swimming while Erin is in Cylch and they both love things like gym play, Raglan, ice-cream at the castle and craft mornings at Ladybird Cafe - we have some extra budget available to take them out for fun times. At home they like to go on the trampoline, get messy with paint in the tuff tray, chill in the play house, dig in the mud, splash around in the paddling pool and play with the water channelling set - they’re very outdoorsy children and we tend to pop on waterproofs and head outside, even on rainy days. Obviously they watch some tv, like all children, but we try to keep it to a minimum.

Our house and garden provide a reasonable amount of space for the children to play and you will have the downstairs to yourself as we’ll be working upstairs in the study/bedroom. There’s a downstairs bathroom (with shower for rinsing off after messy play) that would be just for you and the children. We live within easy walking distance of Caldicot castle, the swimming pool and Ladybird Craft Cafe. We have a good double buggy, so walking to Dewstow Gardens or Wye gymnastics is possible if you’re feeling energetic!

Our main reason for choosing a nanny is so that they get to play together and spend a bit more time at home than they would if they were going out to a childminder or nursery all day, but also so that they can go out and about wherever they like, with complete flexibility. We have spare car seats and it would be great if you can drive, but it’s more important that you’re motivated to get out and about, even if it’s on public transport.

There are times when Erin is out at Y Ffin and Anna is napping, so we’d like some light housework done during those times - mostly tidying up and cleaning play areas and sorting and folding children’s clean laundry.

The days are Wednesday to Friday, but the hours can flex a bit if you have other commitments that you need to work around - we both have flexible working and it’s not like we’ll be commuting. We’re looking for someone available to start around August/September/October, we can wait for the right person. If you have your own child that you need to bring with you then this isn’t something that would be a problem, although we’d need to discuss how it would work with trips out of the house.

We practice gentle parenting, co-sleeping and believe in being kind, respectful and empathetic towards our children. We’ve worked hard to understand their developmental phases and what’s appropriate to expect from them, and we have a happy harmonious home. We’re not strict parents and tend not to think of children as naughty - when they make a mistake we try to figure out why it happened and ask how they’re feeling.
