About Me

I have been working as a 1:1 Learning Support Teacher for students who have been diagnosed with SpLDs; dyslexia, dyspraxia, ASD, Aspergers, PDA and SEMH. I teach students Year 7 to Year 13, supporting them with all aspects of their school curriculum, mainly GCSE, BTEC and A’ Level subjects. I help them with everyday lessons that they have not managed to understand by reinforcing, revising and revisiting topics.
I adapt the curriculum by preparing bespoke, effective learning and teaching strategies that will benefit each pupil, proposing clear and realistic achievable aims.
For English, I help students with essay planning, structure and content, proofreading and grammar. We have researched literature and poems, part of the GCSE syllabus, that they have been unable to grasp.
For Maths and Science, we have looked at various topics; breaking lessons down into slower and more manageable bite-size chunks, finding suitable resources that meet the individual pupils’ needs.
To consolidate learning, I use many different types of resources that will suit and stimulate each pupil’s modus operandi; textbooks, digital learning resources, films, videos, mind maps, flashcards and games.
A lot of my students struggle with organising their daily workload. I have helped them with academic organisational skills and techniques by introducing daily planners, priority lists and plans, mind maps, time management and tracking.
Exam preparation has been a large part of my role; teaching good note-taking, time organisation, putting together realistic revision timetables and revision goals, organising study materials; teaching how to prepare effective mind maps and revision cards.
Building relationships quickly with my students is important; most have low self-esteem. I work with them patiently and empathetically to restore belief and self-worth through continued encouragement and support. I focus on their achievements and accomplishments. I let them know that failure is part of the learning process, and with the right support, mind-set and effort, success is possible.
