Hello and welcome,
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you and our working environment.
My name is lucy and I live with my husband James (a childminder assistant) in our very friendly warm family home, we have three children aged 14, 15 and 18years old. I have been a ofsted registered childminder for 13 years.
We have experience with all ages from 8 weeks to school age children.
Having 2 carers means there will be more adult supervision / flexibility available for activities, emergency cover and any illness. This also allows more flexibility with our working hours which we would be pleased to discuss with you.
I've worked as a horse riding instructor for many year's teaching young children to ride on a one to one basis and also as a veterinary nurse.
Having three children of my own and teaching young children I have personally experienced the variety of children's needs and the importance of individual attention.
In the past James worked in various administration / facilities supervisor roles and is now a assistant to us. ( up until April 2018 he was also a registered childminder)
Our working environment consists of a large 4 bedroom detached house with a large back garden situated at the end of a cul de sac. We use the entire house for Childminding, but also have a very large purpose built playroom with a huge variety of toys for all ages. We have a wide range of indoor and outdoor toys and are close to local park's, indoor play centres and several playgrounds. we are easily accessible by road, train or bus.
We have a small extremely friendly dog, cassie a cocker spaniel. Cassie sometimes accompanies us on her leads for some of our walks. We also have 2 extremely friendly cats Iris and Milly.
Our aims are to make a home from home experience for all children that attend our setting whilst also allowing the children to learn through play whilst following the early years foundation stage, which includes safeguarding, being healthy, Enjoy and Achieving, making a positive contribution and Achieving Economic well-being.
We have all completed a childminding introduction course (cHiP) safeguarding. paediatric first aid, understanding health and safety. I have also taken the EYFS update for HBGs including the two year old progress check.

We have been using Lucy and Jamies for the best part of 4years now for both of our children, and what a great choice we made! A home from home where they felt comfortable and cared for, with lots and lots of fun too.
Lucy and Jamie make a great effort to ensure that come rain or shine the children have an activity to do, whether that be a park, playgroup or at home arts and crafts. A variety of choice to ensure they are being exposed to all sorts of new things.
So gutted our time has now come to an end!
Would highly recommend!
My son came to Mayflower in January and the care has received has been amazing. He has been made to feel like part of the family. My son’s confidence has grown massively since being with Mayflower. He has always lacked confidence in stairs and climbing and Jamie and Lucy have made a real effort to encourage him and help him. The activities they do are so good and the amount of time they spend outside i love. They send pictures everyday and give regular updates on what they've been upto. I could not recommend enough. Thank you Jamie & Lucy!
We feel so grateful to have had Mayflower in our lives for nearly 4 years, our first who started in 2021 and our second who we managed to switch in! Incredible set up, great people and always going out come rain or shine which I loved! So gutted to be leaving you, I can’t believe it’s time already! But if you’re looking for a trustworthy, home from home set up, Mayflower is the one for you.
After working in nurseries for years I was a huge sceptic when it came to childminders, however meeting with Lucy and Jamie that all changed!!!
Our daughter was with Mayflower for just over a year and they were nothing short of amazing! The bond that she built with the both of them was instant, with a home from home feeling she would run into the house without looking back and didn't want to leave at the end of the day.
The communication was clear, open and honest, with photos each day showing us what she had been up to.
Even with allergies they always made sure that she was included and never felt left out.
We are so happy that she has Auntie Lucy & Uncle Jamie that I am constantly recommending them to anyone I speak to and will continue to do so!
Lucy and Jamie have been truly amazing throughout the entire settling in process for my daughter.
I was finding the prospect of returning to work very daunting, but Lucy and Jamie helped reassure me that my daughter would adapt well to the new routine and environment.
As soon as we visited Mayflower, it felt warm and welcoming. Their set-up is fantastic and shows how passionate Mayflower are about what they do. My daughter instantly felt comfortable exploring their well-stocked playroom. Lucy & Jamie both took the time to explain their set-up and the rules they have in place to ensure the children’s safety - this was very reassuring for me and my partner.
I was quite anxious about my daughter’s transition into childcare but Lucy and Jamie were very understanding and patient, which helped ease my worries.
During my daughter’s settling-in period, Lucy and Jamie would send me lots of updates / pictures to reassure me that my daughter was happy and settled. It also meant that I was able to see all the fun activities my daughter got involved in which was lovely. They have also been very happy to provide me with additional updates when I have felt anxious.
Mayflower have been proactive with suggestions to help with my daughter’s sleeping and mobility - they really do care and this makes such a huge difference. My daughter has come on leaps and bounds since joining Mayflower! She is now chatting away all day and a confident walker.
Mayflower always try and include outdoor trips for the children everyday, along with playgroups and other fun activities. I have particularly appreciated all the arts and crafts my daughter gets to do during the day, and it is lovely to see all of her work at the end of the day/week.
I cannot sing Mayflower’s praises enough. They have been so understanding and patient which I think is why my daughter settled in so well. They are a brilliant childminders and I would recommend them to anyone.
