My Experience

I have almost 5 years experience in working with children with severe special and educational needs. This involved working with a 13 year old with Autism and Severe Learning Disability as a personal assistant in his home with his family and out in the community. He was non verbal and incontinent which meant I had to learn various makaton signs and assist him with personal care. For example dressing, washing and changing his incontinent pads. I would also take him out on various different forms of public transport for his enjoyment and to other leisure activities like swimming and trampolining. .
I also have worked in a special needs school, Clifton Hill. Where I was a lunchtime assistant and TA. Which involved me assisting with feeding times and leisure activities. I too was involved with helping the children take part in different activities in lessons and transition them to and from different classes.
My hopes for the future are to become successful in a role I enjoy and can benefit from.
