My Summary
About Me
***PROVIDING EXCEPTIONAL ADHOC, AFTERNOON (From 5) EVENING, NIGHT, WEEKEND & EVENT CHILDCARE SERVICES***
I am an experienced nanny, a qualified teacher, and a loving mother of three. I frequently care for my beautiful grandson, which adds another layer of joy to my life. Currently, one of my children still lives at home with me, and we share our space with three adorable cats who are also part of the family.
With over 25 years of expertise in childcare and education, I have extensive experience caring for newborns all the way to nursery, primary and secondary-age children. I have a strong understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Key Stages 1, 2, and 3 (KS), and the Montessori learning method. My experience also includes supporting children with special educational needs (SEND) and English as an additional language (EAL). I am confident in managing behavioural challenges with empathy, compassion, and a deep understanding that all behaviours have underlying causes. My training in counselling and psychology has equipped me with the skills needed to address these issues effectively.
Being bilingual in Spanish, I am well-suited to assist children with EAL, helping them navigate language barriers and integrate more smoothly into their educational environment. This skill allows me to support a diverse range of families and help children feel more comfortable and confident in their learning and development journey.
I hold a current DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance certificate from my volunteer mentoring and tutoring positions within several Brighton & Hove community support organisations, as well as from former employers, including Teaching Personnel, Sussex Teachers, Cumnor House Sussex, and currently with Brighton and Hove Council. This clearance underscores my commitment to providing safe and trustworthy care for children.
My true passion lies in working with children. I particularly enjoy the spontaneous and joyful nature of caring for young ones and witnessing their academic and personal growth. As an empathetic and supportive caregiver, I strongly believe in child-led, self-managed play and learning. I incorporate forest school learning and development into my repertoire, allowing children to explore and learn in natural settings, which fosters creativity, independence, and a deeper connection to the environment.
Outside of my childcare profession, I have a variety of hobbies that enrich my life. I love cooking, exploring new recipes, and sharing meals with family and friends. Latin dance and listening to music are passions of mine that bring joy and energy to my daily routine. I practice mindfulness and meditation for grounding and self-awareness, enhancing my ability to remain calm and present in personal and professional settings. I also have a green thumb and enjoy tending to my plants and garden, which provides a peaceful and rewarding escape from the daily hustle. Additionally, I take pride in my excellent home organisation skills and genuinely enjoy clearing and tidying up, creating a welcoming and orderly environment for everyone around me.
Please take the time to read the following information before deciding on the specific service you require.
What Is a Nanny?
A nanny is a childcare professional employed part-time or full-time to provide comprehensive care for children in a family setting. Nannies often have educational backgrounds in child development, early childhood education, or similar fields, and many have received specialised training in childcare. They are responsible for meeting a wide range of a child’s needs, ensuring their physical, social, and emotional well-being.
Nannies typically engage in various activities that support the child's development and growth. This includes preparing meals, organising educational and recreational activities, and facilitating social interactions with peers. Many nannies also assist with homework, reinforcing learning and providing academic support.
In addition to childcare duties, nannies often help with tasks related to the child’s environment. This can include cleaning and organising the child's room, doing the child’s laundry, and preparing nutritious meals. Some families may require live-in nannies who reside with the family and are available around the clock, while others prefer live-out nannies who commute to the family’s home.
Overall, nannies play a crucial role in a child's upbringing, offering personalised attention and nurturing to help children thrive in a safe and supportive environment.
What Is a Babysitter?
A babysitter is a caregiver who provides temporary childcare services on an as-needed basis. Unlike nannies, who are employed regularly, babysitters are typically hired for specific occasions, such as after school or during evenings when parents need a few hours away from home. This flexibility makes babysitters an ideal option for parents seeking occasional childcare support.
The primary responsibility of a babysitter is to ensure the safety and well-being of the children under their care. This involves actively supervising the children, engaging them in activities, and addressing their immediate needs. Babysitters may play games, read stories, or assist with simple tasks like preparing snacks.
In some cases, babysitters are tasked with overseeing children during quiet times, such as listening to a baby monitor while the children sleep. They focus on maintaining a secure and comforting environment, allowing parents to feel confident that their children are in good hands.
Overall, babysitters offer valuable support for families needing temporary childcare solutions, providing peace of mind for parents and a fun and safe experience for children.
