My Summary
About Me
My name is Liz and I am an Ofsted registered childminder in Downend. My setting has been rated ‘Outstanding’ and I am a Qualified Primary Teacher. I live with my husband, in a cosy, calm family home on North Street, with a large garden. The focus for my setting is learning through play and I adopt both the Montessori and Steiner approach to the Early Years. My setting allows little ones to flourish, gain confidence and succeed in their own unique ways. I send parents daily updates and photos and we are often out and about in the wider community, being within walking distance of parks, woods, toddler groups and libraries. All meals are home-made and nutritious. We are a very young setting with babies from 9 months and toddlers aged up to 30 months.

Liz came into our lives quickly after an unfortunate situation with our previous childminder. We were initially hesitant of someone new but once we met Liz we instantly realised what we had before didnt come close to the professional, nurturing and fun environment liz offers to children. Our daughter thrived in her care and still talks about her to this day even though she has moved on to preschool since april. Liz sends daily updates, pictures and has a lovely facebook group which is so reassuring for parents and its nice to see what the children are up to :)
Our child has been going to Liz at Gold Stars Childcare for a year now and we couldn’t be happier with the level of care and education our daughter has had. Our child loves going to the setting and settled in really quickly.
Liz has helped our daughter develop and grow a lot educationally and socially. The range of activities Liz organises and delivers to the children is great and includes things I would never have thought to do with my daughter at home.
We have found Liz to be really professional and regularly keeps us informed sending us photos during the day with a message at the end of the day detailing how she has been. There is also a Facebook page, newsletter and email updates to keep us updated. Liz also puts together a personal development plan to help develop children with their ‘next steps’. We video call every few months to discuss our daughters progress which we have found really useful in setting up activities at home.
Overall, we would highly recommend Liz to anyone looking for a place for their children to learn and develop in their early stages. Liz really goes above and beyond what we’d expected and genuinely cares about the standards of her service and the well being of the children in her care.
Liz came into our lives just under a year ago and in a short space of time has become an invaluable part of our child’s life. We came to Liz from a large nursery in the hope of finding a homely environment with a personalised approach to our child’s learning - and that is what we have found. The quality of Liz’s provision is bolstered by the fact she was a primary teacher for so many years - she is passionate about how children learn and knows exactly what to do to foster a child’s love of the world around them. The proof for us is just how happy our little boy is when we arrive at her house in the morning, he practically runs in. Our son loves: the different activities that are offered (sensory play/water play/imaginary play), the home cooked food, the outdoor exploring at the local park and he has even been to some playgroup sessions. As Liz often joins up with Nicola (Sparkletots) there have been many opportunities for our son to interact with children outside of Goldstars - this has proved good for his socialisation. Her policies and procedures are second to none and if our son has ever fallen unwell whilst in her care, she has communicated with us quickly and professionally. As parents, our favourite thing about Liz is her interest in us as a family. She is always looking for different ways to engage with our son and build upon the learning from his previous week.
All you can ever wish to find as a parent looking for childcare, is someone who will nurture and care for your child to the best of their ability. For us that is Liz - someone who our little boy will treasure for a very long time.
We have used Liz as cover for days our other full time childminder is away or closed. Liz and her sister (Nicola of sparkle tots) live around the corner from each other, and Liz has been amazing at covering the days our childminder may be closed. Our son loves being there, and has coped really well with the mix of who is at what house all thanks to Liz and her welcoming home and fun activities. Both Nicola and Liz arrange wonderful sensory play for the children at their houses and often combine the children at either setting to socialise the children in slightly larger groups and give variety to their environments. Liz is great with communication and I feel so happy leaving my son in her care. It has worked really well for us having both gold stars and sparkle tots as a big team providing amazing childminding for my son.
We were really lucky that we found Liz when were looking for someone to take care of our son. Whenever I leave him in her care I have a complete peace of mind that he is going to be cared, safe and happy. You can quickly see that Liz truly has a vocation for child caring and that she loves what she does. She is always implementing new activities to stimulate the development of the children. Going to the park, going to the library, etc. She also customize the activities for the needs of each children focusing on what they like and where they need to focus their learning. My son has been going there for almost a year and there are always new activities to do. Painting drawings that you can take home, making gifts for mother's or father's day, doing gardening. You also get to keep lovely mementos.
The setting is completely adapted for the safety of children while they enjoy the different activities. Both inside and the garden activities. The sleeping area is kept dark and perfect for their naps.
Food is very good too, with thought out seasonal menus that are shared with parents.
Communication is really top notch. She is always available for any questions you have. Advicing you about illnesses, how to support your child through different stages.
Thank you Liz for taking so good care of our son. It's a privilege to be able to send our son to your care and have that peace of mind that he is going to be well, safe and happy.
