About Me

Hello, my name is Helen. I’m a fun-loving person who is very child orientated as i have 2 children of my own(adults now), work with children and regularly look after my grandson. I enjoy the social interaction with children of all ages and engaging them in age-appropriate activities. I consider myself to be warm and friendly with a nurturing approach. I am a BSL level 2 signer who enjoys communicating these skills to others. I work with children and young people in a special educational needs setting which I find very rewarding. Spending quality time with family and friends is important to me, and my hobbies are cycling, swimming and being outdoors.

I am very health conscience so I place a particular emphasis on healthy eating and provide a variety of meals to suit the children’s tastes. Fresh steamed vegetables are accompanied with every meal.

I plan activities based on each individual childs needs to help develop their learning and cognitive abilities that cover all 7 areas of development. Some sensory activities include messy play such as sand, orbeez, mud kitchen and coloured rice or pasta.
Making Maths Fun - By playing maths games with coloured objects can help children rapidly develop maths skills, when conventional methods fail. I put a strong emphasis on communication skills that develop personal, social and emotional developmental in social environments.

I believe that a Childs development is just as important indoors as is outdoors, so I regularly take them out on trips to local parks etc

My Experience

- 10 years working mainstream primary schools
- 8 years SEN experience and trained to level 3
- 2 Children of my own and caring for family members and grandchildren
- BSL level 2 sign language & communication
- Phonics trained
- 20 years Childminder & nanny experience

In 2006 I began working in mainstream primary school and had a particular interest in working with SEND and hearing-impaired children. I gained certificates in Level 1-2 BSL and worked in the school’s ‘Hearing Impaired’ Provision for the Deaf for many years. As well as, working with children with disabilities and multiple and complex needs.

I continued working in primary mainstream until 2016 where I achieved a NVQ Level 3 in ‘Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools’ and attended workshops and completed any relevant training in ‘Safeguarding, Autism and supporting children with Downs Syndrome, which all supported me in my role. 2016 I was ready for a whole new challenge and took the opportunity to work in primary/secondary SEND school with children and young people aged 4 to 19 years. This setting has enriched me with the skills to work in a diverse community, where I have enabled children and young people to develop in their communication and language skills, and life and social skills too. I continue to do essential training and gain certificates in supporting ‘Mental-Health, Challenging Behaviors and First Aid’.
