My Summary
About Me
I am a fully qualified, experienced primary and special school teacher. I am currently looking to tutor alongside teaching part time and looking after my 2 small children, so I have some availability both during the day and after school times - this is dependent on my own childcare and open to negotiation. My main skills and expertise lie in working with very young children and those with special educational needs and disabilities. I am especially passionate and knowledgeable about child development, English literature and disability. My teaching style is child-led, creative and individualised, often incorporating play-based and outdoor learning. I also enjoy and am very confident teaching primary maths, science and phonics.
I feel I would be a great fit for a family home schooling a primary aged child, a child with special educational needs who is either out of school or in need of a little extra support, or a child in primary school who is looking for some extra support to catch up with English, Maths, Phonics or Science.
My Experience
I have spent my entire adult life working in childcare and education. Whilst at university completing my degree in English literature, I spent my holidays working in a special schools and a care home for adults with learning disabilities. After this, I spent a year working full time as a teaching assistant in the same special school. I went on to complete a PGCE in primary education, giving me my fully qualified teacher status. Since then, I have had 6 years of teaching experience. My first teaching job was in a large nursery class in a London primary school. I then spent 2 years teaching at a school for children with autism before moving back to Bournemouth. I have now been working part time at a local school for children with autism for the last 2 years. When I first returned to Bournemouth, I also spent a short time supply teaching and tutoring in primary schools. During this time, I taught Reception - year 4 classes on supply, and delivered very successful phonics and maths tutoring to year 2, 3 and 4 pupils.
