About Me

Hi! My names Jamie I'm 24 and I grew up in East London from a working class background. I'm an older sibling of three siblings and followed in my mum's footsteps in having a passion for childcare and pursing a carer in such. It's funny actually because when I went to school it was actually one of the worst experiences of my life and to be honest I completely hated going until the point I kind of just stopped. I must of been around eighteen at this point and an opportunity came up at my old primary school for a level 2 award in helping in schools (Teaching assistant qualification) and I just thought why not. I ended up volunteering in the school as part of this which is a place I could of never saw myself and within a week I fell in love with it. Helping the children and watching them grow and understand new ways of learning, just seeing there excitement when you walk past the playground and they all run over to say hello even when it was just my lunch break which I always found amusing. Ignited a new passion in me, three years on I was still there and already moved on to completing a course in Special Needs Support in schools. I now work in an Infant School as a one to one with a child with moderate autism. I love my job but as much as I value education I more so value the child's welfare, mental well-being and life experiences. I prefer alternative ways of learning and prefer enhancing the child's view on life, nature and school instead of trying to make every child learn the same, I don't want anyone to feel like I did at school. I don’t drive but am confident enough on a bike!

A little about me, I have a love to travel and explore I try to spend as much freetime as I can get travelling and exploring parks and nature reserves in and around London. I enjoy creative outlets such as listening to music and creating projects. A great passion of mine is being active and physical whether that be in the gym, yoga at home or simply just while exploring. I’m deeply interested in eco-friendly living and alternative lifestyles, trying to have a lesser impact on the environment and living smaller is a goal of mine.

I’m currently completing a placement in Marine Mammal Science and studying Environmental Sciences and Computer Coding.

My Experience

I'm an older sibling so that already comes with an abundance of experience with dealing with arguments and disagreements and overall care. I started babysitting them around the age of twelve and being an older sibling (quite a big age gap between the youngest and I) just took on like a third parental role in their lives.

I volunteered in a primary school from 2018 till 2021 floating from nursery to year six but mainly stayed around year two and year three aged children.

I now work in an infant school as a special needs one to one working with a child with moderate autism and behavioural difficulties whilst also supporting other SEND children with a wild range of needs.

I also currently nanny for two special needs children from two different families and backgrounds.

Jamie has worked part-time with our family (in Hackney) for almost 2 years. He is reliable, patient, good-hearted and extremely capable. Jamie has been a huge force of positivity in our lives. He clicked with our 4yr old autistic son immediately, and has become more than a nanny to him. He is a friend and a mentor - someone who naturally supports and encourages children as they explore the world and develop their interests and skills. Jamie is a true pleasure to work with. We feel very lucky to have met him and recommend him wholeheartedly.
