About Me

Hi there! I’m Aithne, I am 20 years old. I have got a Level 3 Health and Social Care Diploma. I have been doing babysitting since the age of 14, I have also been focusing on my volunteering and my job roles in relation to working with vulnerable adults or working with children. I have a lot of experience with working with autism in particular and also have a sibling who is autistic. I truly love working with children and seeing them grow and seeing their personalities shine through. I am flexible with the days of the week and the hours and I have a full driving license and my own car

Volunteering:
17th July 2017 - 21st July 2017
Kelvedon St Mary’s Academy Primary School, Docwra Road, Colchester, CO5 9DS - Volunteer Teacher Assistant
I joined in all the lessons activities and went round to each table to make sure that all children understood the task.
At reading time, I had my own group of children and we took part in the reading challenge against the other teams in the class.
Putting displays and work on the walls.
While working at this school and being my first work placement it made me realise how I need to improve in different aspects. This work experience showed me what it is like in the working world and how I can change those aspects to improve in myself and my working life.
18th October 2018 - 14th December 2018
ABC Nursery, 22 Grove Road, Tiptree, Colchester, CO5 0JP - Volunteer Nursery Assistant
I took part in the Maths, English, Science and Art activities with the children.
I also took part in the playtime activities and joined in with the nursery team at meal times.
When I was working with the younger children I would be mostly playing games with them and working with the team to make sure that the younger children get their nap time.
I also observed the nursery nurse if the children hurt themselves so that I can see what happens and how they document it.
While doing my work experience at ABC Nursery, I was more confident and I was able to develop my interpersonal skills and I asked for feedback from the team I was working with on what I could work on so that I know how I can improve for future jobs. This work experience allowed me to test what I can actually do and what I can become once I have developed my skills.
1st February 2019 - 15th March 2019
Tiptree Medical Centre, 78 Church Road, Tiptree , Colchester CO5 0HB - Volunteer Receptionist
Collected patient’s prescriptions.
Booked and cancelled appointments for patients.
Checked patients in when they have arrived for their appointments.
Print off smear forms for patients and inform the patients that they are due a smear test over the phone.
Observing the healthcare assistants with blood tests, burns and injections.
While doing my work experience at Tiptree Medical Centre, I learned a great deal about how to deal with individuals who use the services and how to handle difficult requests from those who may be nervous or agitated to approach me. I learned that by staying calm and remaining confident is a must in confrontation. It is important to have a professional demeanor and help the individuals who use the service to the best of my ability despite the mood that they might be in. This is an excellent skill that I know will be useful in this position and can help me make customers happy and willing to come back over and over again.
