About Me

Hi, I’m Miss Schofield :) I am a fully qualified primary school tutor with 3+ years experience in the classroom. I also have 2 years experience as a private tutor, supporting children from the ages of 4-11.

I am currently taking on home school students during the school day, for online or in person sessions.

I’m very creative and I am always on the look out for new ideas for teaching. I feel as though I customise the curriculum to make it more exciting for pupils to develop their own curiosity. This definitely supports their learning.

I always ensure that I am kind, punctual and I have excellent organisational skills. I have the ability to communicate well, especially with children.

From as young as I can remember, I played teachers. I had my own desk, register and books that I pretended to mark. I loved it. Although school was actually a bit of a rollercoaster. I have many memories of school, even right back to being in nursery or even pre-school. I remember good times and bad times. I also remember most of my teachers. Some of my teachers were lovely, some shouted a lot. My teachers definitely shaped the way I felt about school.

Through these experiences, I understand the importance of being a teacher that is kind, welcoming, enthusiastic and approachable.
I was quite academic, I loved reading and was proud of how well I excelled in English. I understand firmly how children have different strengths and unique learning styles.

I also have 5 younger siblings, they range from the age of 4 - 20 and I have helped support them with a lot of school work. Two of my brothers have dyslexia, I have witnessed their unique learning styles and definitely become more knowledgeable in this area.

My Experience

During my university course, I attended 3 placement schools. Each placement has given me incredible feedback. It has helped me to develop and enhance my own unique pedagogy towards teaching.

I also have been a PA for a young girl with autism for many years. This started off as a part time job, but over the years (8 years) we developed a strong friendship. She really enjoys being in my company.

I am also currently a supply teacher, this has given me many opportunities to go into new schools every day and I can recognise differences between them. I have worked in the classroom both on long term roles or day to day. Some of these schools have even asked me to stay with them permanently. This also has helped me face many new challenges from behaviour and SEND. This job has contributed to my ability to adapt in changing circumstances and has made me very open to new ideas.

I have been 1:1 tutoring for the past 2 years and can adapt my teaching to any learning style.

Benefits of 1:1 tutoring include:
?increase in subject-specific knowledge
?encourage higher level of thinking
?increases confidence
?access to additional resources
?improves study skills and time management
?and so many more benefits…

Due to the increase in demand, I am now offering extra hours during the school day to provide home schooling sessions, these can be planned according to the National Curriculum or be based on a more personalised curriculum!

Advantages of homeschooling:
•Flexibility
•Learning outdoors
•More practical teaching
•Adapted teaching skills
