My Summary
About Me
I am a compassionate, reliable, and highly empathetic individual with a strong background in child development, psychology, and student support. Growing up in a family of four children, I played a key role in caring for my younger siblings and supported my parents as a young carer for my brother. These early experiences developed my ability to stay calm under pressure, communicate effectively, and support children with diverse needs. I am committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for children, helping them thrive emotionally, academically, and socially.
With a deep passion for making a positive impact, I have dedicated my career to supporting young people, from my work supporting young people, to volunteering with various organisations that empower young carers. My ability to understand and connect with children from different backgrounds allows me to create a space where they feel heard, valued, and supported.
My Experience
Over the years, I have gathered a wide range of experience working with children and young people in various roles, both paid and unpaid.
• Trainee Nursery Assistant: I received formal training in childcare, which included supporting the care and early education of children aged 0-5 years. This role deepened my understanding of child development and provided me with the practical experience necessary for working with younger children.
• Lead Volunteer, Skills & Volunteering Cymru (SVC): I delivered group sessions for young carers during the Covid-19 pandemic, providing them with the opportunity to engage in activities they might not otherwise have had access to. This role allowed me to develop strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of the unique needs of young carers.
• Senior Project Worker, Quarriers Stopover Project: I provided frontline support to vulnerable youth aged 16-25, including offering emotional support, guidance, and access to essential services. Through this role, I gained extensive experience in crisis management, trauma-informed care, and multi-disciplinary collaboration.
• Freelance Yoga Teacher: I have led yoga sessions that promote physical and mental wellness for people of all ages, tailoring my approach to suit diverse needs and fostering a sense of community and well-being.
Additionally, I have volunteered in various capacities, including as a Mental Health Text Responder for SHOUT, Student Mentor at Cardiff University, and First Aid Volunteer at St. Andrew's, all of which have strengthened my ability to support individuals in both everyday and crisis situations.
My Qualifications
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Human and Social Sciences (First Class Honours) from Cardiff University, accredited by the British Psychological Society. This degree has equipped me with a strong foundation in psychology and human development, which I apply to my work with children and young people.
Further qualifications and certifications include:
• Trainee Nursery Assistant
• Child Protection (NSPCC)
• Safeguarding Children and Young People (Children in Wales)
• Student Mentor Certificate (Cardiff University)
• Training in Manual Handling, Resuscitation, Fire Safety, Health & Safety, and Infection Prevention (Health Education and Improvement Wales)
• Workshops in Understanding Depression, Understanding Psychosis, and BAME Mental Health Awareness (Cardiff and Vale University Health Board)
• Bystander Workshop (Cardiff University)
• Mental Health Awareness and First Aid Training
These qualifications, combined with my practical experience, ensure that I can offer high-quality care and support to children and young people. I am always committed to continuous learning and strive to enhance my skills and knowledge to provide the best support possible.
