My Summary
About Me
Where to start…
My name is Shanea (or Shaya if you prefer), I’m 21 and a big character. I have a bubbly personality, very outgoing and always seeking new challenges. I would describe myself as fun, creative, caring and respectful, engaging, supportive and determined. Being a nanny I’m more than ready to dive right in and definitely not afraid to get my hands dirty. I ABSOLUTELY love to cook and bake for/ with children and all my recipes include secret healthy ingredients (but don’t tell anyone! ;))
I’ve been working since the age of 13 in my family Caribbean restaurant while also venturing into many other roles during, some of those being; salon coordinator, checkout supervisor, receptionist work, warehouse operative, hotel front of house, tanning consultant ( assistant manager ) and dominoes pizza maker. I’ve also cared for children since the age of 16 but we’ll get into that a bit later. I guess you could say I’ve had a good running.
My top 3 hobbies would be 1) Fitness. I love to keep active and eat healthy so I go to the gym and do home workouts quite regularly. I also love to take walks around my local parks and travel to walk trails I’ve not yet explored. 2) Cooking/ Baking. Baking is something I’ve done with my mum and nana since a little girl. I find peace and joy in making something special for my loved ones. ( Not to mention eating the goodies ). 3) Creating. I have a secret passion for creating and arts and crafts. Like I said at the start I never hesitate to get my hands dirty. I also like to digital design things like; menus, business cards, promotional posters and more.
So by now you’re probably wondering why I love working with children so much. Well… children always keep you on your toes and I love a challenge. Their creative and curious minds bring out my inner child so I feel like I can really connect with them individually. My passion is so much more than just keeping them entertained, I’m dedicated to supporting the growth of the child and helping them become independent. I love discovering and exploring new places, going on nature walks, keeping fit and doing it all with a little developing mind makes me feel as if I’m a making a positive impact.
Throughout my experience of looking after children I’ve always made sure to cater to their individual needs to make sure their days are fun yet manageable and not overwhelming. For example a simple yet productive day would include; a nature walk, baking, some fun activities, learning, affirmations and wind down time with a book or watching TV/ an I-pad. I approach each and every day with a positive attitude whilst also being considerate of the child’s feelings/ emotions. As bubbly and fun as I am, I also like to dedicate myself and my time into implementing some fun engaging learning activities.
I’m very well trained in providing/ keeping routine with my aim to keep children safe and happy. I like to achieve this by setting a good plan of the day as it makes children feel secure and this is what i want to see - smiling little faces:)! As well as keeping the little people smiling I always work closely to the parents to make sure we are on the same page keeping the parents happy too. I keep to the parenting style and listen carefully to all of your concerns and suggestions as I believe communication is key.
To add I also have house keeping experience so I am also open to housekeeping roles.
My Experience
Since the age of 16 I have looked after a handful of children so a good 7 years in the role. I have looked after family’s children those being; my brother and sister, nephews(brother in laws children) and cousins as well as family friends children; mums ex-best friend children, aunties best friend children and close family friends.
I’ve also have experience working in a primary school as a teachers assist (year 3&4) working alongside children helping with work, monitoring play time and escorting to and from the dinner hall.
My Qualifications
I have no physical qualifications but I’m more than happy to take a course with the right family in mind if that’s what they wish.
