My Experience

In my current post at Action for Children I am based at Stoneside residental care service which provides the space for children and young people with disabilites to flourish. In my role as a residentail worker I work between both departments within the service; short breaks and the flat . During my time at Stonside I have been able to provide high quailty care and support for the children, young people and their families using an outcome based approach and GIRFEC framework.
In the flat we currently house three young people that live with us on a permanent basis. As a residential worker I have many resonsibilites in regards to the childrens welfare such as the aministration and recordance of medication, updating running records,body chart and choronology. I also attended and supported with such things like school meetings and doctor appointments.I have recently held a young person's meeting to make sure their needs and wants are met whilst living within the service. I have also supported the young people during LAC Reviews and contact with their families.
At Stoneside each individual child has outcomes the services works hard to achieve such as building resilience and developing coping strategies, introducing new foods to restricted diets, intergating children into their communites, growing independence and accessing and engaing with external support services. I have achieved this with a gentle,understanding and consitant approach. I consider myself to be productive and creative, which allows the children to remain stimulated, as well as to help build rapor and grow long lasting relationships.
In my previous post as an Education support assisant at Dumbarton Academy I worked with children from diverse backgrounds as well as a wide range of complex needs. I was faced daily with children who struggle to control their emotions and behaviour. I understood the important to develop a safe, consistent and caring environment that encourages and nurtures young people to develop and reach their full potential. I fully understand and acknowledge the difficulties children can face from a young age which can lead them being taken into care; families struggling with poor mental health, substances abuse and poverty.During my time at Dumbarton Academy
I gained the skills to help the children excel in their academic journey and transferred these skills into a home environment enabling the child to feel safe, nurtured and included at all times.

I previously volunteered at Childline on the switchboard, answering incoming calls from vulnerable children offering guidance and support.
